Kansas City Chiefs officially have the fastest interior defensive lineman in the NFL

Chris Jones abstained from entering the free agency market and put pen to paper on a massive five-year deal that will see him retire as a Chiefs legend.

The three-time Super Bowl champion is no doubt one of, if not the best player in his position.

Situated on the defensive interior line, Jones has become notorious for his agility and speed for a man weighing 310 pounds.

Jones’ versatility

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has built this defensive structure around the nucleus which is Jones.

Jones’ speed has allowed Spagnuolo to utilize the tackle in a way that not many other tackles can be used.

Furthermore, the two-time First-Team All-Pro has been predominantly used in the tackle position… but Spagnuolo’s mind works in mysterious ways.

Jones can occasionally line up on the edge of the defense and use his skills there.

Edge rushers are traditionally smaller, slimmer, and have a brilliant jump-start speed.

However, Jones does not need an invitation to demonstrate his ability.

Being a hybrid threat of a starting tackle and a transitional defensive end is a nightmare for the opposition.

Jones being an All-Pro tackle is hard enough to deal with but can mess with the opposition’s game plan and play on the edge – a DC’s worst scenario.

Chris Jones speed ranked against his competitors

So, what is Jones’ speed when compared to the other defensive tackles in the league?

Next Gen Stats recorded and broke down the data for all the interior defensive linemen with a minimum of 250 snaps in 2023.

The result? Chris Jones recorded the fastest get-off time in the entire league, registering 0.84 average get-off time.

The 28-year-old pipped some of the best talents in the league to the top spot.

Rookie Jalen Carter fell just by Jones with a get-off time of 0.84.

Aaron Donald of the LA Rams finished in third place on 0.86.

The recently retired Philadelphia Eagle Fletcher Cox secured fourth sport (0.88)

Finally, in fifth position was the Denver Broncos Zach Allen (0.91).

However, this should come as very little surprise as Jones is still in his sporting prime, despite playing with one of the most developed brains.

Chris Jones will continue to be a nightmare for offensive linemen across The States after his new deal in Kansas.
