Chiefs warning as Chris Jones told there is one ‘insane’ move he could make right now

The Kansas City Chiefs and Brett Veach are now locked in to working out their offseason strategy as they approach the free agency window.

All eyes are now focused on the free agency market in Kansas and the Super Bowl victory is now a memory.

Four days ago L’Jarius Sneed was franchise tagged by the reigning Super Bowl champions and it is depicted as a trade move rather than a retaining one.

Franchise Tag used on Sneed

L’Jarius Sneed is one of the best cornerbacks in the game and with Jaylon Johnson putting pen to paper on a new deal to remain in Chicago, Sneed would have been the best free agent in the position.

Therefore, with Sneed receiving the tag, this puts defensive star Chris Jones vulnerable to the open market in a matter of days.

General manager Brett Veach has shown confidence that they can secure a long-term deal for Jones.

If nothing is agreed by March 11th, other interested franchises have the right to open talks with the three-time Super Bowl champion about a deal.

Time is ticking to get a new deal over the line despite the confidence from both parties which The Athletic reported.

‘Insane to take a deal now’

The pressing matter was mentioned on the PFF podcast and Sam Monson believes Jones’ agent would be silly to not wait: “The only point I would make is that if you are Chris Jones’ representative or Chris Jones’ agent.

“You would be insane to take a deal at this point and not at least see what is on the open market.

“If what is on the open market is significantly more than what the Chiefs are willing to pay him, then as much as he might want to go back there.

“I mean money speaks in the NFL and a lot of times guys end up playing somewhere else when the money is better.”

The most wanted free agent

Monson has a point; Jones is going to be the biggest prize-hitting free agency if he has not agreed on a deal by then.

As much as both he and the Chiefs want to see him in the red jersey next year; money speaks volumes.

Another franchise could offer more money than the Chiefs and propose an offer more valuable.

Hence, it is no guarantee that the 29-year-old will start at Arrowhead come the opening day.

Agents want the best deal for their clients and have a strong influence on the final decision.
