One of the biggest talking points in the Kansas City offseason window is tying down their future Hall of Famer Chris Jones to a new long-term deal.
Jones has been an essential foundation in the Kansas City Chiefs’ robust defense which has won three Super Bowl titles in five years.
Andy Reid admitted at the NFL combine, that the defense was imperative to their season because they kept the team in games when the offense was not always singing from the same hymn sheet.
After the victory at Super Bowl LVIII settled down, talk swiftly turned to Chris Jones.

New deal on the horizon for Chris Jones
The 29-year-old’s current deal expires and will be hitting free agency if a deal cannot be agreed.
However, talks from both parties have been very positive and Jones is expected to be in Kansas come the start of the 2024 season.
The defensive interior lineman was not franchised tagged because there was a resounding confidence an agreement could be reached.
Instead, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was sanctioned with the tag as the hope of reaching a deal is uncertain.
According to The Athletic, there is a ‘growing optimism’ that an agreement will be reached with Jones.
Brett Veach met with Jones’ agents and felt positive after the talks.
At the beginning of last season, Jones was in a standoff with the franchise over a new deal. The two sides compromised on a 1-year contract.
The Chiefs want to avoid losing their star player for good this time around, there is hope the two sides can learn from last year’s failings.
‘Should break the bank’
NBC’s Mike Florio was very confused as to why another franchise has not attempted to lure Jones away: “There are indications that progress has been made on a deal that would keep Chris Jones with the Chiefs.
“He seems to want to stay with the Chiefs. Even if he could get more elsewhere. I still think one of these other teams that competes with the Chiefs should break the bank to get him away from Kansas City. I’m kind of amazed no one has.
“Maybe they still will, I mean, obviously, it’s not time yet officially to start. But we’re in that tampering window where teams can lay the foundation.”
Florio went on to suggest that a rival team in the AFC West should be eager.
Newly appointed Los Angeles Chargers coach, Jim Harbaugh, should be using his tricks to steal Chris Jones, said the Pro Football Talk host: “If I’m Jim Harbaugh, I’d doing everything I can.
I’m using all my phrases, I’m recruiting him like I’d recruit a five-star high-school kid out of Florida to come to Michigan.
“I’m putting on the hard sell the moment I can, because I want Chris Jones, I’ll overpay for Chris Jones, and I want to get him away from the Kansas City Chiefs.
“You need to get some great players. You get someone like Chris Jones on that defense, all of a sudden you’ve got to take the Chargers a lot more seriously.”
The Chargers could offer the lineman more money but Jones seems to have his heart set on continuing the chapter with Chiefs.
Reports indicate Jones is close to wearing the red jersey next year, and hopefully not the blue and yellow one.
