The Kansas City Chiefs put a definitive end to one of the biggest offseason talking points as the free agency window edged closer and closer.
Chris Jones has now committed his long-term future to the Chiefs and will be starting on the opening day at Arrowhead Stadium.
A change to last year when both player and franchise could not agree on a deal.
Jones is here to stay
Jones refused to go to training due to the matter and missed the opening-day defeat to the Detroit Lions.
Brett Veach and the crew have said that the problems last year have given them a foundation to build off.
Moreover, the deal was not only fair but it played into the hands of the three-time Super Bowl winner.
Financial security is an imperative factor when players sign deals in the NFL and Jones now has that.
Additionally, Jones’ performances have been rewarded and the Chiefs have made him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

His new deal is a five-year contract worth $160 million, which includes $95 million guaranteed.
The five-time Pro Bowler did have Chiefs fans concerned that a deal would not be reached and hit the open market.
Nevertheless, it was always reported that he wanted to stay in Kansas.
Head coach Andy Reid was desperate for him to stay.
‘Three straight championships’
Chris Broussard on the First Things First podcast was quick to praise the message this sent out to the league: “I love the message this sends to the locker room.
“Because if you let him go, then obviously you’re trying to win the Superbowl and all that, but there’s reasons why we didn’t. Did we go all in?
“We let our second-best player go. Right now, you send the message to the players and we are all in, we’re trying to become the first NFL team in history to win three straight championships and this to me gives them an extra boost.”
Broussard implies that this signing has now given the whole team a massive boost.
The Kansas City Chiefs have dug deep into their pockets and done everything to keep hold of their superstar.
Going all in on the dream
Clark Hunt was praised by Chris Jones on X the other day and has increased the feel-good factor around camp.
Patrick Mahomes has already mentioned the idea of the three-peat. Therefore, with this re-signing, they are showing their intention of doing what no team has done in NFL history.
