Emmitt Smith blasts Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and has subtle dig at Micah Parsons

One of the key pieces to the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl victories in the 90s has lost faith in the team owner.

Emmitt Smith won three Super Bowls as the running back for America’s Team, capturing the league MVP and Super Bowl MVP trophies in the 1993 season.

Earlier in the 2023 campaign, Smith said he believed the Cowboys would compete with the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC title.

A lot has transpired since then in Big D and Smith isn’t as optimistic about this group.

What Emmitt Smith said about Jerry Jones

Since the Cowboys defeat to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round, owner Jerry Jones has made it clear what he what to see sooner rather than later: a Super Bowl.

He’s vowed to go all-in to grasp another Lombardi trophy but Smith isn’t buying what Jones is selling.

”I’m tired of being sold on what the Cowboys could be,” Smith said.

“I’m tired. I’ve had enough of it because I’m more about what the Cowboys really are. And who we really are and who we were. That’s where I’m at. That’s where everyone else is at. How do you allow this to happen?”

Smith says he was surprised that Mike McCarthy was retained as the head coach for another season after their embarrassing defeat at home to Green Bay.

He says the way the 2023 campaign ended “is not becoming of the Dallas Cowboys’ mystique, respect, the brand.”

What Smith believes the current Cowboys team is lacking

Smith was a member of the last Super Bowl-winning Cowboys team in 1995, their fifth as a franchise.

No Cowboy team has made it beyond the divisional round since then and according to Smith, there’s a clear reason why.

“Nobody wants to fight no more,” Smith said about the current edition of this team.

“No one wants to fight hard anymore. They wanna (say), ‘Oh, we are the Cowboys. Tell me how good I am. Check out my Instagram posts. See me on my podcast? I’m doing all this stuff. I’m everything. Without doing anything.”

Micah Parsons has his own podcast called “The Edge”

Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and most Cowboy players have accounts on Instagram with millions of followers.

Is the Cowboys owner losing credibility

Jerry Jones built the Cowboys into one of the biggest marketing successes in the NFL and one of the biggest successes in terms of world championships.

For Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler though Jones isn’t as respected these days as in years past.

“And if you’re losing credibility, you’re losing respect,” says Smith.

“You lose respect, you have no honor… Things have to change. … I mean, it’s like we went out and played with our hands tied behind our backs or we left our minds up in Frisco and didn’t even take it over to AT&T (Stadium) in Arlington.”

Since 2009 the Cowboys have played their home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington after playing for years at Texas Stadium in Irving during Smith’s playing days.

Smith concludes that he feels a little responsible for what he believes to be the state of the Cowboys at the moment.
