Less is more is an expression that’s resonated loudly and clearly for Jerry Jones this season.
In October 2023, Forbes Magazine listed him as the #8 richest American sports owner, with a net worth of $14.5 billion.
That’s just slightly below Arsenal’s Stan Kroenke ($14.6 billion), with the richest on that list being Steve Ballmer of the Los Angeles Clippers ($101 billion).
While Jones spent extravagantly on players in the past, he’s been able to get some huge bargains from his superstars this season.

Season of Savings
At the end of August, Forbes had the Dallas Cowboys as the highest-valued franchise in the NFL at $9 billion.
Seven Dallas Cowboys will be in the Pro Bowl this season, but many aren’t making big money.
The highest-paid Cowboys Pro Bowler is Dak Prescott, who will enter the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract next season.
That’s $40 million per year, and according to NFL.com, he’ll carry a salary cap hit of $59.455 million in 2024.
In 2023, Prescott threw for 4,516 yards, leading the league in touchdown passes (36) while tossing just nine interceptions, the second-fewest among starting QBs behind C.J. Stroud (five).
Zack Martin’s ninth Pro Bowl selection came with a cap hit of over $11 million per Spotrac, going up to $28.5 million next year.
CeeDee Lamb came with a cap hit of fewer than $4.5 million in 2023, finishing second in the league for receiving yards (1,749)
Micah Parsons had 14 sacks and 63 tackles and was among the best at QB pressures and hits all season.
His cap hit in 2023 is just over $4 million per Spotrac, going above $5 million in 2024.
Heading into their final game of the regular season, punter Bryan Anger led the NFL for net average (44.3), all for a cap hit of $3 million per Spotrac.
His 2024 cap hit is $3.8 million.
Trevon Diggs‘ replacement, DaRon Bland was quite the bargain, with Spotrac putting his 2023 cap hit at $946,197 and just over a million in 2024.
Bland led the NFL in interceptions, with a record five pick-sixes in 2023.
Finally, Spotrac has Brandon Aubrey’s cap hit at $750,000.
That’s not bad for a guy who made 36 of his 38 field goals this season.
Due a Raise
Prescott, Lamb, and Parsons will all be in the final year of their respective contracts in 2024 before becoming unrestricted free agents in 2025.
You’d think if they become UFAs someone will be throwing a lot of cash their way.
Given the chemistry that Prescott and Lamb have built and the production of all those players mentioned, Jones likely wants them on the Cowboys’ long-term payroll.
Hopefully, Jones has a good rainy-day fund cause those players’ salaries will jump off significantly in the coming years.
