Cowboys’ latest injury report has one unfortunate blemish on it

The Cowboys injury report for Thursday was announced and unfortunately Tyron Smith is on there.

The Cowboys return to action on Sunday following their Week 7 bye. After playing the Chargers in Week 6, Dallas takes on LA’s other team, the Rams, on the road.

You’d like to think the Cowboys are well rested after the bye. They certainly go into the clash with the 3-4 Rams as favorites, however, Mike McCarthy’s 11-5 record after byes, which includes four road losses, will perhaps give the 2022 Super Bowl champions some confidence.

Cowboys were looking healthy heading into Rams clash

It’s virtually unheard of for teams to be 100% healthy heading into Week 8 of the season. That’s certainly the case for the Cowboys, who have Trevon Diggs and C.J. Goodwin out for the season, as well as Leighton Vander Esch on Injured Reserve.

Apart from that, things were looking pretty good on the injury front. At Wednesday’s practice, all of the players on the 53-man roster participated in practice. Juanyeh Thomas, who was suffering with a hamstring injury, was the only player listed on the Cowboys’ injury report for Week 8 and he was a full participant on Wednesday.

That prompted coach Mike McCarthy to say before Thursday’s practice, “We’re healthy just coming off the bye week. That’s probably the biggest thing. I think it’s where you want to be. . . . Our pure GPS numbers was the biggest output of the year that we’ve had. I’m looking for another one today.”

Tyron Smith added to practice report with neck injury

However, just as Cowboys fans were feeling good about the team’s health, starting left tackle Tyron Smith was added to Thursday’s report with a neck injury.

Smith was a limited participant per the report and his injury is “being treated with caution.”

Smith’s status for Sunday’s game remains unclear, but it’s another frustrating blow for the Cowboys’ offensive line. The team has had their starting offensive line – Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin and Terence Steele – in just two of their first six games this season.

Those were the two most recent games as well, marking the first two games the Cowboys have had their starting line together since the 2021 playoffs.

Smith has suffered with numerous injuries in recent years, and missed 14 games in 2020 after undergoing neck surgery. Hopefully this latest injury isn’t a major setback.

Fortunately the rest of the Cowboys are looking relatively healthy (touch wood), while Juanyeh Thomas’ return will be a welcome boost at safety.
