Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott have made their first moves in reducing their cap hit for the 2024 season.
Prescott has converted his roster bonus into a signing bonus, saving $4 million on the cap.
All indicators are pointing toward a new Prescott extension.
But two weeks ago, on the Rich Eisen Show, he heard rumors that Jerry Jones could be prepared to swallow the 30-year-old’s cap hit.

Contract extension will not be imminent
Veteran Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher has said an extension for the franchise will not be imminent.
He draws this conclusion from the fact if they were to extend him, there would have been no reason to restructure his current deal.
On Fisher’s YouTube channel he was quoted saying: “By the way they (Cowboys) are not gonna go out and do something, they already did what they are going to do.
“This would suggest an extension isn’t coming tomorrow, it could, but if the extension was coming tomorrow then you wouldn’t have needed to do this (restructure his deal) today to save $4 million.”
Nonetheless, this was a negotiation between Prescott and the front office so proves that both parties are conversing.
A glimmer of hope that proceedings could slowly pick up speed.
Executing desperate trade… ‘bad idea’
In addition, another topic on Fisher’s mind was the report from The Dallas Morning News.
Writer David Moore said that the Cowboys should make a trade to raise the energy and breathe life into the offseason.
Fisher responded to Moore’s words of ‘they need to engineer a trade’, replying: “No way a good organization should do it that way.
“‘Ah we’re feeling a little down, let’s make a trade to excite everybody’, bad idea.”
‘Good players… good value’
Initially, the reporter rejected the idea of a trade purely based on the motivation to please people.
Moore proceeded to say the trade should be of similar value to the Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore acquisitions in 2023.
Ultimately, Fisher was a lot more on board with the idea of a trade similar to those, saying: “Those were sharp, aggressive trades. Good guys.
“Good players and it turned out best friends. Good value. The Cowboys weren’t just shuffling bad shares there, they won those trades. They got two starters and gave up very little for them.”
Ultimately, The prospect of a trade that is exceptionally beneficial to the team is an opportunity worth considering.
Nevertheless, they should not entertain the idea of a trade just for the sake of executing one.
