A new NFL league year is just around the corner, and there are some intriguing trade options that could improve Dallas Cowboys’ offense moving forward.
The league year officially gets underway on March 13 as “America’s Team” gets set to turn over a new leaf in hopes of contending for a Super Bowl.
Here are a few names the Cowboys could acquire via trades that wouldn’t cause their cap to rise significantly.
A running back who could help the Cowboys
Joe Mixon is not a hot commodity, but he could address an issue at running back for the Cowboys.
He’s still under contract for another season with the Cincinnati Bengals and won’t have nearly the kind of attention or money that Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs will.
However, Mixon’s got some qualities that could help Dallas in 2024.
There were reports in 2023 that he was on the outs with the Bengals, perhaps due to the emergence of Chase Brown.

A trade for Mixon could be a win-win for both the Bengals and Cowboys.
Mixon’s cap hit in 2024 of $8.5 million isn’t chunk change, but it’s still cheaper than Tony Pollard’s franchise tag from last season ($10.09 million).
In 2023, the Bengals running back posted his second 1,000-yard rushing season over the past two campaigns, averaging four yards per carry.
His nine rushing touchdowns were the second-most for him in a single NFL season.
Other than being a solid contributor, there are two things to like about Mixon in the short term.
One, his contract has no guaranteed money, and two, he’s been to the Super Bowl, and that experience could be invaluable to this Cowboys offense.
What receivers should the Cowboys consider
No one will take CeeDee Lamb’s spot as the #1 Cowboys receiver in 2024, but there are some secondary options that may be worth pursuing.
Michael Thomas will earn a base salary of just over $1 million per Spotrac in 2024 with the New Orleans Saints.
The 30-year-old twice led the NFL in receptions (2018 and 2019) and was the league’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.

While he’s been a solid contributor throughout his career, his health is a concern, featuring in a combined 13 games since the 2021 campaign.
Another name worth considering is Hunter Renfrow.
The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver saw significantly less playing time under Antonio Piece in 2023, featuring in only 35% of their offensive snaps.
He carries a $13.7 million salary in 2024, but seeing as he had career lows in receiving yards (255) and receptions (25) this past season, the Raiders may be willing to absorb some of that salary if it means he’s off their books in the future.

Who might be a good option on the Cowboy’s O-line
Garrett Bradbury is expected to be the Minnesota Vikings starting center in 2024.
However, his ties to current Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer could see him move to Big D.
His base salary is a mere $4.65 million in 2024.
He’d be an ideal stopgap center to replace Tyler Biadasz, who is likely departing this offseason.
