Since the Dallas Cowboys were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers in January, Jerry Jones has had a dilemma on his mind for the entire offseason, should he extend Dak Prescott?

There is a growing concern from sections of fans that the can has been kicked down the road so far that Dak Prescott will test free agency.

However, Stephen Jones has stated that they have said valuable cap space, through limited spending, to pay their key players.

Prescott is searching for a top-of-the-market deal and an NFC rival has been given one

Prescott is on the hunt for ground-breaking money and there have been whispers that his price could be close to $60 million per year.

The Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff has inked a deal worth a massive $53 million per annum for the next four years.

Therefore, this has prompted many experts to question what this could mean for the 2023 MVP runner-up in his hunt for an extension.

Moreover, the 30-year-old has stated he does not necessarily want to become the highest-paid quarterback but has also hinted that he will leave Dallas if they cannot meet his demands.

Prescott is one of four major quarterbacks who is expected to receive an extension

Four quarterbacks entered the offseason eager to get paid as they approach the conclusions of their deals: Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Tua Tagovailoa, and Trevor Lawrence.

Goff is now the first person to be paid and Tagovailoa and Lawrence are expected to receive new deals before the 2024 season.

Nevertheless, the Cowboys’ signal-caller is the only one where there is conflicting speculation about a contract offer.

NFL expert suggest the Cowboys should ‘strongly consider’ one option at QB

Colin Cowherd discussed the idea of the next quarterback getting ‘the bag’ and believes franchises should always consider another option if necessary.

“One of these things I hear all the time is, ‘next man up to get the bag’. No that’s not the way it works. the next quarterback contract up does not always get the bag,” he explained on The Herd Podcast.

“You should overwhelmingly, strongly consider drafting another quarterback before giving a good quarterback the bag.”

Cowherd implies that giving ‘good’ quarterbacks, like Prescott, ‘the bag’ is not always the viable option when considering the growing market.

He goes as far as to suggest that the Cowboys should consider drafting a quarterback instead of persisting with Prescott.

America’s Team were considered a dark horse to select a QB in the NFL Draft

Before the NFL Draft, the Cowboys were considered a ‘sleeper team’ to draft a QB with Prescott’s situation looming.

Ultimately, they did not and decided to smartly invest their picks to supplement their roster which had been drained of key starters.

Drafting rookies can be a gamble, especially when you have an experienced veteran capable of doing the job.

However, the cheaper rookie deal is very prosperous if you hit on your pick, which is what we are seeing with the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers.
