Dak Prescott breaks silence on his contract status with the Dallas Cowboys

Dallas’ franchise quarterback could be having his last season with the star.

From the moment Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys reached a “mutual agreement” on not signing a long-term contract, the mood within the organisation seems to have gotten even heavier.

The suspense over Prescott’s future and the no-deal have left a cloud of tension around the franchise. But the reason why Dallas didn’t extend the signal-caller’s contract remains unclear, sparking speculation and theories among sports analysts and fans.

A renewal would have provided significant financial relief on the salary cap for the 2024 season, but the front office’s hesitation to move forward with the negotiation raises questions about their strategies and priorities.

Also, the statement made by owner Jerry Jones that the franchise would go “all-in” this year seems contradictory to the lack of progress in the team’s free-agency. This disparity between words and actions leads to doubts about the direction the Cowboys intend to take next season.

For the first time this offseason, Prescott directly faced questions about the team’s situation and his own contract status.

Dak Prescott has no intention of becoming the NFL’s highest-paid QB

During the Children’s Cancer Fund event, which took place in Dallas on last Friday, the QB finally expressed his views on everything that’s going on behind the Cowboys’ scenes. He showed himself to be committed to living in the present.

“I’m focused on here and right now, where I am,” Prescott said. “That’s always how I’ve been. I’ve been in this situation before, so it’s OK. I’m fine in any situation, betting on myself or playing this year out.”

Prescott was asked if he’s scared of what might happen in the future. “I don’t have any fears,” claimed the QB.

“I’m not going to say I fear being here or not. I don’t fear either situation, to be candid with you. I love this game, I love to play and love to better myself as a player and my teammates around me.”

“Right now, it’s with the Dallas Cowboys. That’s where I want to be and that’s where I am. That’s the focus. After the season we’ll see where we’re at, and if the future holds that. If not, go from there.”

The signal-caller also spoke about the possibility of extending his contract with the Cowboys in the long term: “I’m not trying to be the highest paid – necessarily. So we wait until the negotiations began and I wanna put this team in the best situation.”

Prescott’s speech is in line with the organisation’s positioning and perhaps the Draft could point to a possible reorientation of the Cowboys for 2025.
