Clark Hunt says Patrick Mahomes did one thing on tape he had never ever seen before

Patrick Mahomes has revolutionized the quarterback position and is in a legendary race to catch Tom Brady.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP has achieved a feat that Brady only managed at age 37.

Kansas City is blessed to claim one of, if not the best quarterback in the modern era.

However, it was not predicted that Mahomes would even reach this level.

Mahomes has defied expectations

The 29-year-old was the second quarterback selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Only the current Buffalo Bills second-string quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky, was drafted ahead.

After his combine appearance, Mahomes was awarded a 6.30 (eventual plus starter) overall rating.

In addition, it was noted that he has adopted ‘bad habits’ in his combine profile.

Nonetheless, Brett Veach saw something in the rookie out of Texas Teach that no one else saw.

They identified the natural swagger and flair the quarterback had in his arsenal.

Clark Hunt stunned by Mahomes’ talent

Owner Clark Hunt also became a witness to this during his rookie year.

At the time, quarterback Alex Smith was the starter for Andy Reid and Mahomes sat behind learning.

Whilst Smith was leading the offense, the NFL world was unaware of the generational talent brewing on the bench.

Clark Hunt took part in an interview with ESPN in Orlando.

All the owners have been in Florida to discuss the league meeting agendas.

‘What’s a no-look pass’

Furthermore, Hunt reminisced about the moment when Patrick Mahomes illustrated to him he was special.

In the interview, he recalled: “In his rookie year, when he sat behind Alex Smith, Brett Veach would periodically send me clips of Patrick in practice, including no-look passes.

“I had to call Brett and say, ‘What’s a no-look pass’, I mean, I know what it is in basketball but it didn’t really exist in football. But yeah it does watch the clip. Sure enough, in practice, he would be looking this way and throwing that way.

“Of course, when he started playing next season (2018), that is exactly what we saw from him.”

Veach protected Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes almost invented a new move in football in Clark Hunt’s eyes.

It is a testament to Veach that he saw potential in Mahomes and nurturing him behind Smith was paramount.

When watching tapes of the future two-time MVP in practice, Hunt struggled to come to terms with the throws he was completing.

At that moment, the owner knew he had a special player on his hands.

However, it has still blown his mind the feats his franchise QB has reached.
