Defensive superstar Chris Jones has recently put speculation of his future in Kansas to bed for good after signing a long-term contract to remain as Chief.
Chiefs Kingdom could sleep easily last night for the first time in a while as they hit the pillow knowing Jones will likely be retiring as a Kansas City Chiefs Legend.
The 29-year-old put a stop to the biggest offseason topics as he signed the dotted line on a five-year deal worth a guaranteed $95 million.
With there being no decision agreed upon as the free agency window crept dangerously closer, there would have been some worry about Jones hitting the open market.
Besides, Brett Veach and Jones had made it clear they both wanted to agree on a beneficial deal.
Jones is here to stay
The five-time Pro Bowler wanted to remain in Kansas City and head coach Andy Reid was also keen on Jones to stay put.
There would have been many interested franchises in the defensive interior lineman.

Jones’ agent could have waited to see what magnitude of money would have been available in free agency.
However, in Jones’ heart, he was always a Chief and wanted to retire at Arrowhead.
It would have been weird seeing him in any other Jersey, right?
Franchise owner Clark Hunt must have had a huge influence in the contract negotiations and finding the funds to secure the deal.
A change to the grade
Chris Jones seemed to be a big fan of the owner after signing the deal.
After signing the mega-deal, Jones posted on X saying “Clark Hunt! A+.”
In the recent NFL Player Association survey conducted post-Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs owner was given the grade F-, with players anonymously providing responses.
Additionally, this was the lowest grade acquired compared to every other franchise owner in the NFL.
Despite being reigning back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, the owner unimpressed the Chiefs’ players.
By Jones taking to social media and giving his franchise owner a seemingly revised grade of an A+, the three-time First-Team All-Pro is now Clark Hunt’s number one fan.
Chris Jones essential to the ‘three-peat’
Hearing that Mahomes and company are all in on achieving the ‘three-peat’, Jones was essential to that happening.
Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has built a resounding defense around the interior lineman.
Moreover, To lose a player of Jones’ caliber would have had a devastating impact on the team.
A gaping hole would have been left in the defense and would have been nearly impossible to replace.
Not only is Jones the best defensive tackle in the league – who can operate on the edge as well – he is a voice and a leader in the realms of the locker room.
