The Kansas City Chiefs are laying down the groundwork for an explosive year and one of their defensive stars has hinted at the requirements for him to reach 20 sacks.
Chris Jones has been one of the most feared defensive linemen in the NFL and has been the heartbeat of Steve Spagnuolo’s machine.
The Kansas City Chiefs were forced to make a difficult decision in the offseason, with Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed reaching the end of their contracts.
Sneed’s contract demands forced the Chiefs to trade him with Chirs Jones lurking
Sneed was looking to be paid as one of the top defensive backs in the league but Jones was a top priority.
General Manager Brett Veach was aware of the inevitable dilemma when Jones engaged in a holdout before the opening game in 2023.
The front office decided to place the non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed and he could seek a trade.

In the meantime, Jones inked a six-year $158.75 million deal to become the highest-paid interior defensive lineman.
Sneed was traded to the Tennessee Titans but the Chiefs retained their superstar and the prospect of retiring in Kansas City looks set in stone.
Chris Jones predicts on X that 20+ sacks are the goal in 2024
On X, the five-time All-Pro took to X and predicted that he was going to reach 20+ sacks in 2024.
A monumental jump, considering his career-high is 15.5 sacks during the 2018 and 2022 seasons.
However, Jones has big aspirations that match the overall dream of the franchise in 2024.
If the Chiefs were to win three successive rings, it may take a juggernaut of a season from a player like Jones to get over the line.
So, what does the 29-year-old require to reach that sack dream?
Per Chiefs reporter Charles Goodman, Jones stated: “Everything. God, luck, some unselfish teammates, and sack nation.”
Jones hints that talent is not enough and he may need a helping hand from a divine source from up above.
Aaron Donald is the last DT to produce a 20+ sacks season in 2018
To achieve 20 sacks for a defensive interior lineman is an almighty challenge but not impossible as the recently retired Aaron Donald proved.
The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year achieved the feat once in his stellar 12-year career.
Furthermore, in 2018 he managed to break the 20-sack barrier and finished on 20.5 for the season.
Chris Jones will be hopeful that he can tread close to the impressive milestone and the Chiefs will dream of it to.
Amongst defensive tackles, the overall record for sacks in an NFL season is held by the New York Giants Michael Strahan with 22.5.
