‘All of them together gives a piece of Tyreek Hill’… Michael Irvin raves about Kansas City Chiefs move

Kansas City, day after day, is re-organizing its squad and bringing in key pieces for the season ahead – and a possible three-peat.

In the early years of this would-be dynasty, Kansas City Chiefs fans were in great shape at the wide receiver position. Tyreek Hill was an absolute star in the passing game and broke countless records during his time in KC.

Since his departure for the Miami Dolphins, the receiving group has been centered around Travis Kelce, a great weapon and the powerful partner of Patrick Mahomes.

As a tight end, Kelce has several other roles and can’t be used as a receiver all the time, so relying on just one player is difficult for a quarterback with a strong arm like Mahomes.

Two specific statistics show how hard the Chiefs had to fight to get to the Super Bowl – and win it.

In the 2023 season, the offense had its lowest ranking in yards (ninth) and points (10th) since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018.

The acquisition of Marquise Brown is a breath of relief for both the fans and the organization. Expectations are positive for what he can bring to the Chiefs.

How Brown could fit into KC

The 26-year-old could add a lot to the Chiefs’ squad. He’s both slim and athletic, two traits that, if well matched, will give speed to the passing game.

Also, the performances of Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore were disappointing last season. According to a SportRadar ranking, Kansas City’s receiving unit led the NFL in drops (28) and drop rate (12%).

Mahomes needs to regain confidence when it comes to throwing passes in the intermediate or deep zone, and Brown could be the piece that brings that comfort to the QB. Having a veteran to embrace the position could make a difference in the locker room.

There’s no denying how much Tyreek Hill is missed by the Chiefs’ offense. Michael Irving, in this Friday’s edition of the Undisputed show, analyzed what Andy Reid’s possible plan might be when it comes to implementing Marquise Brown into the wide receivers’ lineup.

“They know where they’re going. Now they’re retooling right in front of you.

“These are different type receivers (Travis Kelce and Marquise Brown) and Andy Reid’s going to use all of them as an amalgamation to give himself another Tyreek Hill.

“None of them by themselves can do what Tyreek Hill does, but all of them together gives him a piece of Tyreek Hill that he’s putting on the football field right now in Kansas City.”

Missing pieces

Thinking about possible next moves, the Chiefs need to look at their available budget, which should be around $8 million on the salary cap.

In addition, there is still the possibility of increasing this space if the team decides to trade L’Jarius Sneed, who was recently placed on the franchise tag and has a contract estimated at $19.8 million.

There are still a few positions to be filled, such as offensive tackle and defensive lineman. KC still has a whole draft ahead of them.
