L’Jarius Sneed’s future in Kansas currently remains unclear but NFL Insider Adam Schefter has provided a hopeful update for Chiefs fans.

On March 4th the Kansas City Chiefs placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on their star cornerback.

The Chiefs were presented with a dilemma, tag Sneed or their superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones?

Sneed can seek a trade

Brett Veach concluded that a deal with Jones seemed more likely and was more integral to the operation.

So, Sneed was given the tag but was given the non-exclusive tag so he could seek a trade.

In the meantime, Jones has signed a five-year deal before free agency.

The 28-year-old has become the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

Andy Reid stated at the NFL Combine that he was determined to keep both Sneed and Jones during the offseason.

Jones will be remaining a Chief for life after the current negotiation.

Mahomes looks to free up cap space

Generational quarterback Patrick Mahomes is said to be willing to restructure his deal to free up more cap space.

With Sneed being one of the best free-agent corners, he would deserve to be paid accordingly.

Moreover, the cap space is the decisive factor hindering the Chiefs from signing the 27-year-old to a new long-term deal.

The three-time Super Bowl winner has been crucial to Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive unit and he will be a major loss.

The star corner did not give up a single touchdown whilst in coverage for the whole season, until the AFC Divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

As a result, NBC’s Mike Florio reported that seven teams were interested in the defensive back for a trade.

However, nothing has materialized so far.

The Colts hopes of landing Sneed take a blow

Reports have emerged that the Indianapolis Colts are leading the race to land Sneed.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter provided this update on Sneed’s situation on the Pat McAfee Show: “The two sides quote on quote ‘haven’t had any conversations’, Colts and Chiefs.

“100% not happening (as of this moment), could that change? For sure… but no that is not happening.”

Those reports were instantly debunked by the ESPN reporter.

The Colts have not formally approached the Chiefs or Sneed as of this moment.

Sneed has openly said he wants to return to the Chiefs next season.

Furthermore, he openly said: “Hopefully I’m still here (Kansas) and we go back and repeat.”
