Xavier Worthy is one of the highly anticipated rookies that Chiefs Kingdom will be desperate to get a glimpse of and has modeled his game around one current NFL star.
The Kansas City Chiefs took Worthy from the Texas Longhorns in the first round, giving Patrick Mahomes the fastest man in NFL Combine history.
Moreover, the combination of Mahomes and Worthy will improve their vertical deep threat downfield that will inevitably create space for Travis Kelce.
The superstar tight end had to shut down accusations of the 21-year-old only being a ‘track star’ with his speed.
Xavier Worthy has shared an insight into who he is trying to replicate
In the last few days, the new recruits have been participating in the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp and the first insights into the players have been gathered.
After the NFL Draft, Worthy was asked which current NFL star he takes inspiration from.
“Now, I’m watching a lot of Calvin Ridley. He came back. I watched him before. I feel like he’s one of the best in the game right now,” Worthy said on his inspiration.
I feel like he was one of the top route-runners in the league before that,” Worthy exclaimed.
“Now, he’s just coming back in fresh, so I feel like him just coming back fresh and being who he was before, he still came back the same way,” via the Athletic Studio
Ridley was a consistent wide receiver who started his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2018 out of Alabama.
Ridley was making significant strides before being suspended
Furthermore, the 29-year-old amassed 3,342 yards off 248 receptions, logging 28 touchdowns in three and a half seasons with the Falcons.
However, in 2021 he took a step back from football because of mental health reasons and then he was suspended for the 2022 season because of betting violations.
He then spent last year with the Jacksonville Jaguars via a trade, Ridley managed to break the 1,000-yard barrier for the second time in his career.
Free agency came calling after a lone season with the Jaguars and Ridley stayed within the AFC South moving to the Tennessee Titans.

Xavier Worthy will be replicating Ridley’s route running in an explosive offense
Worthy will be modeling his game around his fellow AFC target man and precisely wants to imitate his route running.
Being a deep threat to the Chiefs’ offensive, Worthy’s route running will be decisive in opening space and earning separation downfield.
The highly-decorated college rookie will have to step into a bigger role with Rashee Rice starring at a lengthy suspension.
Fellow speedster Marquise Brown will offer a complementing threat down the sidelines.
If Worthy could replicate an explosive season like Ridley in his rookie year, the Chiefs will have an excellent platform to build off of.
