‘Wired’… Andy Reid gives his first impressions of Louis Rees-Zammit at the OTAs

Kansas City Chiefs players are locked into the first start to their OTAs and Andy Reid has been able to gauge an impression of their most unique signing.

Yesterday, was the first OTAs session for most NFL franchises.

Players are returning from their spring break rest after the action-packed season in 2024.

As they say, there is no rest for the weary and the Chiefs are back to work after their Super Bowl success.

Patrick Mahomes and multiple players have been spotted training privately before the official franchise workouts began.

If they are to hunt down the three-peat, they must be on the game from the get-go as off-seasons can decide Super Bowls.

One of the most unique signings of the offseason was International Players Pathway addition Louis Rees-Zammit.

The Welshman sacrificed his promising career in rugby to pursue his dream of an NFL career.

Rees-Zammit signs a three-year deal with the Chiefs

He impressed during the workouts and the Chiefs came calling, offering him a three-year deal.

Moreover, he will be utilized as a wide receiver, running back, and a special teams player.

Expectations are unclear at the moment for the 23-year-old as he started to mingle with his fellow teammates.

However, the ex-rugby star was pictured training with Patrick Mahomes and other stars in Texas.

Andy Reid says it will it is ‘not an easy transition’ for Rees-Zammit

Andy Reid spoke at the OTAs about his first impressions of the aspiring NFL player as he gets up to speed with the game.

During his press conference, Reid stated: “His [Rees-Zammit] dad played six years in a European Football League, so he’s somewhat familiar with the sport.

“He’s had success with rugby. There are some similarities there. That’s not an easy transition but he seems to be wired for it.”

Battling for a spot on the 55-ma roster will be a tough process

Reid acknowledges the process will be challenging for the new Chiefs star but is complimentary about Rees-Zammit’s attitude.

Furthermore, the journey will be a grueling one, as after finding his feet in Kansas City he will have to prepare for mid-July training camp.

A tough process in which Rees-Zammit must battle against fellow players for a space on the 55-man roster.

Nonetheless, settling down into his new life is at the forefront of his mind.
