What Travis Kelce has given a clear statement when asked if he intends to retire soon

Travis Kelce has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs and is approaching 35.

Drafted in 2013, the tight end has lived through every phase of the team and has become a legend for the franchise and the NFL. He’s widely considered one of the best in history at his position.

About a month and a half ago, Kelce signed a massive extension with Kansas City: a two-year contract worth 34.25 million dollars. He’s the highest-paid TE in the league on an annual basis.

Even though his age is a noticeable factor, the player continues to put up impressive numbers.

What’s more, 2024 could be a historic year for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Chiefs already thinking about the future of the tight end position

Bearing in mind that Kelce is only going to get older, KC has already made moves in the 2024 Draft to acquire a good prospect who can be well developed to replace the veteran in the future.

Jared Wiley is the rookie who will learn and be mentored by Travis over the next few years.

At the OTAs, both teammates had the opportunity to practice together and will now continue in the mandatory minicamp.

Travis Kelce and his love of the game

On Tuesday, after the first day of minicamp had finished, Kelce spoke to the media about what it’s been like to return to the facilities and prepare for another season.

“I’m a football player, I love playing in the NFL and this will always be my main focus,” said. “But outside of that, you know, football ends for everybody, so dipping your toes in the water and seeing what you like in different areas and different career fields, I think the offseason is the best chance you can get to try and explore that and set yourself up for after football.”

He was then asked how long he thinks he has left in the league. “I really can’t put a timeframe on it,” noted.

“I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there’s opportunities outside of football for me. I think you’ve gotta keep in perspective that I’m a little kid when I come in this building.”

It seems that getting older isn’t a problem for TK. His mentality and way of dealing with this topic resemble that of a much younger person. Kelce will play as long as possible.

“I’m gonna do it until the wheels fall off. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen anytime soon. I can definitely understand that it’s toward the end of the road than the beginning of it. I just gotta make sure I’m set up for after football as well.”

This year, retirement isn’t even in tight’s vocabulary, but ‘three-peat’ is certainly on his mind every second.

“Wear and tear me, baby. I’m ready for it, man. Put the load on me.” Kelce said.
