Undrafted Chiefs wide receiver impressing after stepping up after Xavier Worthy injury

The 32 NFL teams will now head to training camp, the stage that precedes the pre-season games.

The Kansas City Chiefs will conduct their final offseason workouts at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mandatory minicamp was the last chance for the players in the squad to prove that they deserve a shot at the 90-man roster.

Kansas City come into the 2024 season with an unmissable goal and have strengthened to achieve it, especially on the offensive side.

The game is about seizing opportunities

KC’s 2024 Draft was very well done. In fact, the signings and renewals of the offseason as a whole were excellent.

Holywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, Jared Wiley, Kingsley Suamataia are big names who should give the team a good upgrade.

Veteran Brown and rookie Worthy are the great promises for this year.

Coming off a somewhat disappointing season in the passing game, the franchise brought in both players in order to add speed and depth to the offense.

Patrick Mahomes has a great chance of showing off the power of his long throws.

In the rookie minicamp, Worthy stood out from the start. That’s because, since the Combine, when he broke the record in the 40-yard dash, he’s already built up a reputation for his speed.

However, early in the OTAs, the pass-catcher suffered a hamstring injury and missed the mandatory minicamp.

Andy Reid has given indications that he is ready and healthy for training camp in mid-July.

Being out of training also had consequences for the WR.

The sophomore who stood out at the mandatory minicamp

Given Worthy’s injury, other players in the squad were given the chance to fill in for the rookie.

This is the case with wide receiver Nikko Remigio, an undrafted free agent signed by the Chiefs in May 2023.

Last year he was a standout in training camp and the opening game of the pre-season, but ended up hurting his shoulder and had to be placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

In his sophomore year, Remigio seems to be getting a second chance to prove himself.

ESPN reporter Adam Teicher put him in his ranking of ‘players who surprised us the most at minicamp‘.

According to the journalist, the Fresno State product “received a good run with the first unit during OTAs and minicamp, and he made the most of his opportunities.”

Remigio has to work hard for the next two months

Despite having impressed, Nikko Remigio will face many challenges if he wants to secure a place in the 53-man offensive squad.

Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice have already secured their places on the team.

Fighting for a spot on the unit means being better than Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Justyn Ross, Remigio, Cornell Powell, Montrell Washington, Phillip Brooks and Jaaron Hayek. The list is long.
