It’s less than three months until NFL games return. At this point in the offseason, practices are beginning to intensify.
The Kansas City Chiefs have already gone through rookie minicamp, OTAs, mandatory minicamp and are now heading towards training camp – another mandatory stage for players.
The workouts will last a month and end after the start of the preseason games.

All players must be at 100 per cent for the training camp
Since the OTAs, some players in the Kansas City squad have been left out of practices or have taken part on a limited basis due to injuries.
A few days ago, Andy Reid gave some updates on the health conditions of the team’s injured members.
Joe Thuney injured his pectoral muscle during the playoffs and is still recovering.
“Joe’s working his tail off, getting better,” said the head coach. “We’ve got to see exactly how that thing works. I’m not sure. We’ve got to get clearance from the doctor and that whole process that goes on as we go, but he’s made good progress. He’ll be one of those guys that’s probably right on the border – whether he can go or not go from the healing part of it.”
Rookie Xavier Worthy suffered a hamstring injury early in the OTAs.
“He should be able to [start camp],” claimed. “He’ll continue to get treatment here. He’s getting better. He’ll get treatment, and we’ll just see how he rehabs through that.”
Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s AFC Championship Game – but is expected to start next month on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Coach Reid didn’t mention any updates about the DL.
Chiefs’ training camp schedule
KC will hold its training camp for the 14th time at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Practices start on 21 July and end on 21 August, but players must report on 16 July.
There will be a total of 19 camp sessions, 17 of which will be open to the public. The other two days will be open only to Chiefs ticket members.
The reigning champions’ first preseason game will be on 8/10 at Jacksonville Jaguars (7pm CT).
Remaining matches will take place in the following weeks:
- 8/17 – Detroit Lions (3pm CT)
- 8/22 – Chicago Bears (7:20pm CT)
