Dallas Cowboys have not started negotiations on a new deal for their quarterback and one Cowboys legend has shared his thoughts.
When the Cowboys crashed out of the 2023 playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, segments of fans were calling for the 30-year-old’s head.
Moreover, Prescott enters the final year of his four-year deal and cannot be tagged.
Dallas Cowboys shut down the idea of Prescott hitting free agency
Speculation had emerged that Jerry Jones was willing to let the signal-caller play out his deal into 2025.
This decision would eat up 20% of their precious cap space, as Prescott will be valued at $55.4 million in his final year.

However, Stephen Jones silenced any idea of their All-Pro QB being able to walk in 2025 free agency.
He implied they have resorted to limited spending in the open market to have as much money to play with when offering their key players new deals.
Jerry Jones also stated they are waiting for leaves to fall before jumping the gun and signing extensions.
The Cowboys are waiting for other league deals to set the market value
America’s Team seems to be waiting for other key players around the NFL to set the market.
For example, Jared Goff and Tua Tagovailoa are in line to receive new extensions.
Therefore, America’s Team is worried about setting the market out of fear of overpaying.
One of their Hall of Fame quarterbacks has shared his view on the delicate situation.
Troy Aikman still believes that Dak Prescott is the right person at QB
As the Cowboys are not portraying the greatest confidence in Prescott, it will be reassuring to know a Dallas legend still has faith.
When speaking with Mike Fisher via Athlon.com, Troy Aikman stated: “I still believe in Dak [Prescott].
“I think that until you do it [win a Super Bowl], there’s always those criticisms. I know Peyton Manning went through that. His first three years, he didn’t win a playoff game, and then you look back on it now and you can’t imagine that anyone would question whether or not he could win a playoff game.”
Dak Prescott is following a similar path to Peyton Manning says Aikman
Aikman goes as far as to compare Dak Prescott residing in a similar situation to Peyton Manning during the early stages of his career.
Furthermore, Manning failed to win a ring until his ninth season with the Indianapolis Colts.
This active encouragement with be heartening for the 2023 MVP runner-up.
Ultimately, Prescott’s contract may take months to resolve as the offseason unravels.
Nonetheless, the intentions have been made by the front office, they are looking to extend their QB.
