Travis Kelce says ‘it got a little shaky’ for him over Chiefs teammate’s contract

The highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL is a Chiefs star.

Chris Jones agreed to extend his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in a major deal. As reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the deal is worth $158.75 million, with $101 million guaranteed.

Even though he’s the leader of the defense and easily one of the best players on the roster, the process for his extension wasn’t the smoothest. He always wanted to stay with the Chiefs, as long as it was on terms he felt he deserved.

Jones was on hold out last season – he was away for the entire offseason and didn’t show up for training camp. He made his first appearance of the season on KC’s debut night.

Brett Veach even had his doubts for a moment about whether it would be appropriate to give long contracts to players who are relatively old for the position (Chris Jones is 29).

It didn’t take long for him to recognize that the talent of one of the best, if not the best, defensive tackles in the league outweighs his age. And Jones continues to deserve it.

Greatly supported by his teammates

As well as being an extremely competent player, Stonecold Jones has people around him who cheer for his success.

Travis Kelce, in the new episode of New Heights, celebrated his friend’s achievement.

“95 million guaranteed, he wasn’t lying Chiefs Kingdom when he was on the ___ing stage, I don’t remember him saying it, but I saw the video, ‘I ain’t going nowhere!’. He’s still home, baby and I love him for it man.”

Last month, during the Chiefs’ parade to celebrate Super Bowl LVIII, the DT expressed his motivation to stay in the squad and chase a third ring in a row.

“I need three of those rings, baby, we ain’t done yet. Kansas City we will be back here next year. And for those who want Chris Jones gone, I ain’t going nowhere, baby.”

Kelce admitted that he was a little afraid that Kansas City would choose not to extend Jones’ stay.

“It got a little shaky for me, I was like ‘what’s the holdup?’ Well the holdup was being the highest paid defensive lineman.”

Drue Tranquill is home for another three years

Still on the topic of the Chiefs’ moves, Mr. Swift heaped praise on linebacker Drue Tranquill for renewing his contract for another three years.

“The guy can ___ing do everything. Special teamer if you need him. He’s just an all around ball player.”

The tight end even highlighted another of Tranquill’s talents off the field.

“I played some beer pong with him…he could ___ing do that. You could tell he’s just a natural athlete.”

Chiefs Kingdom definitely has nothing to worry about. The guys are inevitable and are in contention for the three-peat.
