There is action ongoing behind the scenes in Kansas City with one player now re-signed to an important contract.

Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs are doing their best to try and keep the team together entering free agency.

L’Jarius Sneed has been placed on the non-exclusive franchise tag, a temporary measure, while talks are ongoing with Chris Jones over a new deal.

Meanwhile Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been released, a move which saves $12 million, some of which has already been put to use.

Drue Tranquill signs new deal

Linebacker Drue Tranquill was due to enter free agency. The Chiefs have not let him get that far. He has now signed a new deal.

Adam Schefter reports: “Chiefs are giving LB Drue Tranquill a three-year, $19 million deal that includes $13 fully guaranteed”.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reported the same figures, describing it as a ‘huge deal’.

Tranquill confirmed the agreement, with a message on X which read: “Unfinished business. #ChiefsKingdom LETS GOOOOO.”

Star tight end Travis Kelce reacted, showing his happiness with a short message saying “LFG!!!”, an acronym for ‘Let’s _______ Go!!!”.

Drue Tranquill numbers

Drue Tranquill played a key role through the Chiefs season and play-off run, as part of a unit which was one of the NFL’s best defenses.

Tranquill made 54 solo tackles, contributed 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles, numbers from the regular season.

He was particularly dominant in the AFC Championship game, where he made eight solo tackles.
