The Cowboys may now have the best QB and WR duo in the NFL

We’re seeing a dynamic duo in Dallas that look poised to rival some of the best across the league.

When you think of the most dangerous offensive partnerships in the NFL right now, names like Patrick Mahomes,Travis Kelce, Kirk Cousins/Justin Jefferson, Joe Burrow/Ja’Marr Chase, Josh Allen/Stefon Diggs and Tua Tagovialoa/Tyreek Hill come to mind immediately.

The hottest trending duo at the moment, though, is in Cowboys country, where Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are lighting up opposing defences.

Over the past few weeks, no one has had an answer for those two who are putting up some sparkling numbers of late.

Cowboys connection unstoppable

In last weekend’s big victory over the Giants, Lamb set a new NFL record, becoming the first receiver in history to have at least 10 catches and 150 yards in three straight games.

Prescott put up 404 yards through the air versus New York on Sunday in three-quarters of football, his highest single-game total for 2023.

Since losing to San Francisco, they have been simply magical together.

Lamb has 41 catches since Week Six, tied with T.J. Hockenson for the most in the league over that stretch though the Vikings’ tight end has played one more game.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Lamb’s 617 receiving yards over the past four games is the most in NFL history in that time frame, with no other receiver reaching 500 so quickly.

Over that stretch, Lamb’s catches would be 11th in the league and his yards 21st, while his total catches (68) this year and receiving yards (975) put him sixth and third in those respective categories.

Not to be outdone, but Prescott has had 12 touchdown passes since Week Six, the most among NFL QBs in that time.

His 1,353 passing yards in four weeks is second among league pivots behind Washington’s Sam Howell (1.434), who’s played one more game.

In his previous four games, Prescott completed 70% of his throws (101 of 145) while also running for two scores.

It’s one of his hottest starts to a regular season, rivalling his opening six games of 2021 when he completed 73.1% of his throws for 1,813 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions.

In elite company

There’s still a long way to go for Prescott and Lamb to join some of the other elite Dallas duos of years past, but they’re putting themselves in the conversation to potentially be among the best.

During the Cowboys’ glory years in the 90s, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin were a force, winning three Super Bowls together.

Last weekend, Lamb surpassed Irvin for most career 150 yards+ receiving games with the Cowboys (four).

Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson were splendid together in Dallas as the former captured a pair of Super Bowls and the latter claimed one.

The last great QB/receiver duo before Lamb and Prescott in Dallas would probably be either Tony Romo and Terrell Owens or Romo and Dez Bryant.

Lamb and Prescott are well on their way to surpassing the achievement of Romo and company reasonably soon.

If they can add a couple of Super Bowls, the duo would have to be in the mix for the best Cowboys tandem ever.

At 24, Lamb seems to have just scratched the surface, but if he and Prescott continue their stellar play, a Lombardi Trophy could soon be in their futures.
