‘Shortsighted’… Mike Florio says Jerry Jones and co are making critical mistake

Mike Florio is one of the latest reporters to condemn the Dallas front office’s approach when dealing with star players.

An offseason that was hopeful of adding star talent with the ‘all in’ claims has been overshadowed by the indecisiveness of Jerry Jones.

The three best players on the roster expect new deals but the Dallas Cowboys have not budged.

Dak Prescott could have been extended and his deal restructured to save valuable cap space.

Now, the quarterback is set to eat up $55 million on the cap with just one year on his deal left.

CeeDee Lamb is a no-show for OTAs to leverage new contract

CeeDee Lamb has one year remaining on his rookie deal and expects to be paid at the top of the market.

Once again, the front office has dilly dallied on an extension and Lamb has felt forced to withhold from the team’s OTAs.

In addition, Micah Parsons has two years outstanding on his rookie contract but is eligible for a new deal.

The Cowboys seem set on playing a waiting game and Jones is ‘playing with fire’ if he persists with this approach.

Mike Florio says the Cowboys’ methods will ‘blow up in their face’

NBC’s Pro Football Talk Mike Florio is the latest TV personality to criticize the Cowboys’ dealing with key players.

On air, Florio exasperatingly stated: “When it comes to issues [key player contracts] like this, they are cheap, they are shortsighted, and they are not as smart as they think they are, period!

“They keep screwing these up because they wait too long. Their [Cowboys] attitude is when they get [into] a tough spot they wait. Do you not realize Jerry and Stephen by waiting it is only going to cost you more? It is never going to get cheaper. It’s only going to get worse.

“It started with Dak, it’s going to continue with CeeDee Lamb and continue with Micah Parsons. They’re gonna try [to] find some other solution they will blow up in their face and they’re gonna wonder why they can’t get themselves some gloryhole.”

NFC East rivals set the wide receiver market as Dallas misses out

The pricing has already been set in the wide receiver market for the 2023 offseason.

Furthermore, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed Devonte Smith to a fresh $75 million deal to increase pressure on Jones to agree to terms with Lamb.

Prices continue to rise every year in all football positions across the NFL.

America’s Team refuses to take the initiative and be the one setting the market.

As a result, they back themselves into a corner and are forced to pay top dollar.

They followed the same method with Dak Prescott by designating him two franchise tags and then caved when they saw the price in 2021.

It is an outdated method of contract attitudes and continues to fall flat on its face during the current climate of the NFL.
