First Take regular Shannon Sharpe recently made a huge admission on Travis Kelce’s GOAT tight end status, calling him the best to ever do it.
Travis Kelce had himself a game against the Chargers in Week 1. The Chiefs TE finished with 12 passes for 179 yards and a score, as he and Patrick Mahomes combined for their 50th regular season touchdown during the game.
Chiefs TE created yet more history against the Chargers
Kelce became just the second tight end in history behind Shannon Sharpe to record five games of 150-plus receiving yards. It was also his fifth career game with 10+ receptions and at least 150 receiving yards, something no tight end has ever done before.
He now has has 31 catches for 370 yards and two touchdowns in his last three games.
Now age 34, Kelce has built up enough of a resume over the years to insert himself into the GOAT TE debate.
Travis is a two-time Super Bowl champion, an eight-time Pro Bowler and a four-time first-team All-Pro selection. However, he (hopefully) still has plenty more years left in him to add to that incredible list of achievements.

Shannon Sharpe makes huge admission on Travis Kelce’s GOAT TE status
Nevertheless, Shannon Sharpe, himself one of the best tight ends to do it, thinks that as of today, Kelce is still the best ever.
The former Ravens and Broncos TE appeared on First Take recently and was asked if Kelce is the NFL’s most dangerous pass-catcher.
Sharpe went one further.
“Everybody knows how I feel about Trav”, he started. “I call him my nephew, I think he is the GOAT tight end.
Given what he’s done in the regular season and then he steps up even more in the postseason, I think he’s the greatest tight end to have ever played this game.”
However, Sharpe did say that in answer to Molly’s original question, Tyreek Hill is the NFL’s most dangerous pass-catcher.
“He keeps getting better with time”
After his performance against the Chargers on Sunday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, “Kelce keeps getting better with time”.
Reid also added that “Taylor [Swift] can stay around all she wants,’ in reference to Kelce’s performances this season with and without the singer in attendance.
During the Chargers game, CBS threw up a graphic showing that when Swift is in attendance Kelce was averaging 99 receiving yards per game (now 108) compared to only 46.5 yards per game when he’s ‘left to his own devices’.
Imagine if Taylor had been at every one of Travis’ games during his career. Not only would he be the GOAT TE, he’d be the GOAT.
