‘Pretty amazing’… Dak Prescott numbers are hard to believe and Cowboys are blowing it, says Colin Cowherd

The focus for the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason was crystal clear… fix the run game.

However, there has been no intention of addressing that issue thus far.

Running backs are a premium position and the market for them in free agency has dried up.

Jerry Jones has refused to overpay for any running back which is why there is no solution so far.

NFL media reports have suggested there is a ‘mutual’ feeling between A.J. Dillion and the Cowboys.

Though nothing has materialized just yet.

Focus on the run game

America’s Team had a destructive passing offense last year, with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb leading the charge.

Prescott led the league in quarterback completions (410) and touchdowns (36).

Lamb with the second most receiving yards in the NFL (1,749) and hauled in the most touchdowns (12).

The running game was less than impressive, ranking 15th in rushing yards per game.

Therefore, it was important to address the problem which is handicapping the offense.

By having a dominant running game, the pressure will be alleviated from the passing game.

Moreover, by having a two-pronged offense, both elements of the game can flourish.

Give Dak help

On The Herd podcast, Colin Cowherd proved that Prescott and the Cowboys perform better with an established running game: “There are some sobering numbers and data on Dak Prescott that are almost hard to believe until you look at it since Dak Prescott has been in the league.

“This is pretty amazing…. when he gets 30 Plus rush attempts behind him, he’s virtually impossible to beat, 53-7 (win/loss record).

“Less than 30 Rush attempts… He’s not a very good quarterback, 20 and 34.”

Cowherd proves that Prescott is crying out for a run game to support his passing.

Additionally, the podcast host has more statistical data to showcase his point: “But this is more sobering. If Dak just gets 100 yards rushing again, he’s Mahomes 64 and 17.

“If he gets less than 100 yards, Dak Prescott has nine career wins. That’s it. And the Cowboys are making no move at running back. It is very clear, indisputably inarguably clear, Dak is a completely different quarterback with the run game.”

Prescott needs running support

You can twist statistics as to how you please, but there is no glossing over these numbers.

Without question, Prescott is a better quarterback when he has the support of a strong running game.

The draft may not be the place to look for your next all-star rusher.

Franchises around the NFL have opted to pursue established targets in the NFL and steer clear of the draft.

Should the Cowboys have done the same, or will they pick up a free-agent running back?
