The Dallas Cowboys could be turning in favor of a reunion with their old running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Elliott resides in free agency after a one-year deal as a New England Patriot expired.
In 2019, the running back held out of Dallas’ training camp and demanded a contract extension.
Jerry Jones gave in and the 28-year-old was made the highest-paid running back on a six-year deal.
The Dallas Cowboys owner has regrets over the contract dispute and has said he has learned from this.
Injuries affect Elliott’s production
Lingering ankle and knee injuries saw Elliott lose his explosivity and dynamic speed.
Ultimately, his production dropped and the Cowboys had to make a difficult decision.
The Illinois native did not justify his monstrous salary and America’s Team decided to cut the rusher in the 2022 offseason.

A business decision that was purely financially motivated.
Nonetheless, the 2016 First-Team All-Pro managed to find his feet in New England and saw an increase in production in the final five weeks.
Elliott finished last year with 648 rushing yards and 313 receiving yards alongside five touchdowns.
An impressive output from a rusher who was predominantly used for 3rd down and red zone situations.
Reports have surfaced that the Cowboys were impressed with the former employee’s progress at the tail end of the season.
Therefore, a reunion could be on the cards.
Ochocinco loves Elliott’s return
The topical Cowboys conversation was brought up on the Nightcap podcast.
Former wide receiver Chad Ochocinco welcomed Elliott’s return: “I like a reunion between the two, I think the version of Ezekiel Elliott we saw in New England was a healthy Zek.
“His knee was not bothering him, if you understand on the back everything when he was in Dallas.
“Obviously, his knee bothered him a bit… his production went down… the price tag based on production did not match.”
Ochocinco is in favor of Elliott’s return to Dallas if he can stay healthy.
Sharpe thinks Elliott will help Prescott
Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe noted that his speed and responsibility have shifted since leaving the Cowboys.
On the podcast, Sharpe stated: “He is more of a plow back than a racehorse, he’s gonna get you the third and shorts.
“Where the Cowboys struggled with third and short, fourth and short and in the goal line situations because you asking an awful a lot of Dak (Prescott) to put the ball into tight windows.”
As touched upon by Sharpe, Elliott’s return could be beneficial to alleviating some of the pressure on Dak Prescott.
There is a realistic chance that Elliott could once again be sporting the blue star on his helmet.
