‘We just talking’… Shannon Sharpe slams Jerry Jones’ comments at owners general meeting

The Dallas Cowboys have been wrapped up in an offseason which has been headlined by the pressing situation regarding Dak Prescott’s contract.

With next to no movement in the NFL free agency market, problems are becoming magnified.

There is very little distraction to shift eyes away from Prescott’s looming contract dilemma.

However, Jerry Jones has shown that there could be light at the end of the tunnel.

Prescott can deliver a ring

The owner, president, and general manager showed confidence in Prescott.

Whilst attending the owners’ general meeting, the 81-year-old stated that Prescott was the man to lead the franchises to a Super Bowl.

Jones stated: “I think there are a handful or more of quarterbacks playing who haven’t won a Super Bowl that will win a Super Bowl.

“I think Dak is one of them. I’m firm there. He’s one of the ones who can.”

So, fans would assume that this indicates the 30-year-old will be the signal caller for the Dallas Cowboys in the foreseeable future.

The contract extension seems to be edging closer but it is only talk at the moment.

Although Jones might say he believes in Prescott, the best way to do this is by writing out the cheque.

Money talks and at the moment it is just lip service.

‘We just talking’ Sharpe unimpressed

Legendary wide receiver Shannon Sharpe was quick to point out the lack of commitment Jones is showing.

On ESPN, he argued: “The way you show an employee you believe in them, is money and tenure.

“So, give me four or five years, give me $200/$225 million with $100 million fully guaranteed, that is the way you show me you believe in me. Otherwise, we just talking.”

Sharpe spoke from the perspective of the Dallas quarterback and said he expects to be paid in reality.

Three months ago, Jerry Jones was quoted saying that the franchise would only go as far as Prescott could take them.

After eight seasons, the playoffs are the furthest the two-time Pro Bowler has got the team. Is that as far as he can take them?

‘Breaking bread’ the way forward

However, Jones seems to inspire belief in Prescott and has seemingly hinted that he can take the team further – to a Super Bowl.

Sharpe stated that Jones ‘can’t have it both ways’ and implied he needs to find a conclusion soon.

In his opinion, the conclusion should be the owner and quarterback ‘breaking bread’.
