Patrick Mahomes points to the only thing he didn’t like about the Chiefs’ schedule

When we reach the point in the offseason where the game schedules for the 2024 season are announced, we start counting down the days until September arrives.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, in particular, this year comes with extra motivation: to win the three-peat, a record never achieved in the NFL.

It’s not going to be an easy road, but you can’t doubt Andy Reid’s squad – even after what they did last year.

KC’s first two games will be the fans’ thermometer for their initial impressions of the team’s performance.

The level of difficulty the Chiefs will face in 2024

The season begins for Kansas City with nothing less than an AFC Championship rematch with the Baltimore Ravens.

10 days later, they face the Cincinnati Bengals, meaning Joe Burrow is one hundred per cent healthy and hungry to return to the Super Bowl.

The vice-president of broadcasting planning, Mike North, gave an interview assuming that the franchise’s game schedule may be one of the toughest in the NFL.

“We maybe gave the Chiefs the hardest schedule in the league,” he said. “I suspect they’re gonna be there come playoff time.”

Patrick Mahomes is unhappy about just one thing

Faced with a tough schedule, the Chiefs will need to kick on in the final stretch of the regular season to get some rest before the playoffs begin.

Patrick Mahomes admitted to the Pat McAfee show that there’s one thing that’s bad for the team this year: “The only thing I don’t like is the early bye,” claimed.

KC’s bye week will be in Week 6, which is relatively early – and the franchise isn’t used to that.

“The early bye is always tough. But other than that, I’m just ready to play football,” Mahomes said. “We know we’re gonna have to bring our best stuff week one and it’s gonna take our best football…”

To date, the earliest the defending champions have had a Bye was in week 8.

“It’s the earliest I’ve ever had a bye. We do get the Christmas Wednesday night game, which could be like a four-day weekend. But at the same time, that Week Six bye? It’s Texas Tech’s bye, too, so I can’t even go see my college team.”

This seems like a small hurdle compared to the huge goals the Chiefs have for this season.
