Patrick Mahomes, arguably the greatest quarterback of the new era, approached his contract back in 2020 in the same way as future Hall of Famer and New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has not looked back since becoming the franchise starter in 2018 after taking the reigns from Alex Smith.

The 28-year-old has already reached the pinnacle of American Football on three occasions and he is nowhere near hanging up his cleats.

Mahomes has reached a feat in football that some players will only dream of

Moreover, Mahomes has acquired three Super Bowl rings, three MVPs in those finals, and two regular-season MVPs, something Tom Brady did not reach until the age of 37.

He has inspired a generation of football lovers from the state of Missouri to all corners of the world.

Chiefs Kingdom will not have to worry about their legendary quarterback leaving the franchise anytime soon, as he signed a 10-year deal back in 2020.

It is all but confirmed that Mahomes will retire a Chief but hinted there is one good reason to leave the game behind.

Mahomes is set for life after signing the second-biggest contract in sporting history and understands the moment when he will call it a day.

Mahomes understands that his children are a bigger priority than football

The beloved Chiefs signal-caller has two children Sterling and Bronze, whom he wants to be a big part of their lives.

If football ever got in the way of seeing his daughters grow up, he would know it was time to close the chapter on football.

Tom Peliserro spoke on the Rich Eisen Show about Patrick Mahomes’ mentality when agreeing to the decade-long deal with the franchise four years ago.

NFL expert says Brees and Mahomes have the ‘I wanna win’ mentality

Furthermore, the NFL expert compared his thought process to Drew Brees who also wanted to tie his future with one team.

“Some quarterbacks get to a certain point and tell their agents enough! In other words, it doesn’t matter if I’m earning $40 or $45 [million per year]. I’m earning more more money than I ever know what to do with and I wanna win,” the NFL Insider via Rich Eisen.

“This is where I wanna be. I’m getting boatloads of money, enough! Drew Brees is one example of that through the course of time. Where he would regularly tell his agent Tom Condon, I’m good!”

Pelissero implies that quarterbacks like Mahomes and Brees have prioritized signing longevity deals to help the franchise in the best way.

They are happy to spread their money over a longer period to lower their cap hits on the season.

As a result, the franchise invests the money saved into other key areas to build the roster to compete for championships and Super Bowls.

Drew Brees signed four separate deals totaling 15 years of playing time with the New Orleans Saints.
