The main way of new players joining the NFL is through the draft, however, the International Players Pathway has a pool of talent waiting for an opportunity.
One of the more talked about players is former Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit.
The 23-year-old managed 31 caps for the Welsh National rugby team and scored 70 points.
Moreover, he competed for the Gloucester rugby team on a domestic level.

From rugby to a shot in the NFL
Rees-Zammit played winger and fullback in rugby, with the winger role traditionally the speedier position in the sport.
He became the youngest ever player in 59 years to be selected for the British and Irish Lions squad at the novice age of 20 years and 93 days old.
However, after calling rugby his profession since 2018, he has now decided to leave the sport.
Instead, the Welsh national has his heart set on making the trip over the Atlantic Ocean and becoming an NFL player.
On 16th January 2024, the rugby player announced he would be joining the NFL International Players Pathway to follow his dream.
Now, the player will be hoping he will be swapping rugby union tries for NFL touchdowns.
However, it is not guaranteed that he will be offered a contract by a franchise, so it is a big gamble.
To leave a sport where you are an established player and pursue a career in a different sport takes a lot of guts.
Rees-Zammit speed is scary
Rees-Zammit has been training and living in Florida alongside the other cohort of IPP’s aspiring talent.
On March 20th participated in the Pro Day and performed in various athletic drills to demonstrate his ability.
He adopted the name ‘Rees-Lightning’ due to boasting blistering speed. Furthermore, the ex-rugby star has clocked a top speed of 24.2 miles per hour. The Seattle Seahawks DK Metcalfe registered the fastest carry by any NFL player last year, registering 22.23 miles per hour.
Rees-Zammit has compared his style to the San Francisco 49ers’ Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffery. Saying he can be dynamic after the catch but also be a threat in the ground game.
As a result, many teams are interested including the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs showing keen interest
NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport, has said that Rees-Zammit will be visiting the Chiefs tomorrow for talks.
Kansas City are on the lookout for a wide receiver to add to their core.
Reports have suggested they could target a rookie in the NFL Draft but could the IPP be their provider?
We have to wait and see what the Chiefs decide.
