The Dallas Cowboys have been under the microscope during the offseason and pressure has already mounted for the upcoming season.

Mike McCarthy knows that this could be his last season as the Dallas Cowboys head coach if he does not satisfy Jerry Jones.

The 81-year-old owner has his sights set on a ring, something America’s Team has not won since 1995.

McCarthy has one year left to prove it in Dallas

This time next year, there could be an ultimate rebuild as McCarthy has just one year left on his current deal.

However, the Dallas HC has not been given the best help in the current offseason.

Jones’ ‘all in’ comments have recently turned to ‘win with less’.

Yet, the head coach has said he does not want any sympathy and knows what he must do this upcoming campaign.

Mike Zimmer signed to a one-year deal

Additionally, newly appointed defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has only been signed to a one-year deal.

On NBC’s Pro Football Talk, the conversation was centered around which teams cannot afford slow starts to their seasons.

Mike Florio put the Cowboys at the top of his list, with McCarthy being under the pressure he is, it is understandable.

Florio suggests Zimmer could be made interim head coach

Interestingly, the presenter suggested that Mike Zimmer could be in charge against an old player.

Florio speculated: “How bout them Cowboys ‘all in’, if they lose a bunch of games early it could be Mike McCarthy out.

“Maybe Mike Zimmer would be the interim head coach when they play Kirk Cousins and the Falcons, a kid can only dream.”

Florio speculates that the Cowboys could give the boot to McCarthy if they have a poor start to the season.

Jones would be comfortable buying out the rest of his contract with just a short time remaining.

Furthermore, Mike Zimmer could be promoted to interim head coach if this does occur.

Zimmer and Kirk Cousins square off in 2024

The Cowboys are set to play the Atlanta Falcons on the road next season with the date still to be revealed.

During his tenure as the Minnesota Vikings HC, Zimmer coached Kirk Cousins to three Pro Bowl appearances.

The quarterback now resides in Atlanta and has signed a four-year deal as the Falcons quarterback from free agency.

If McCarthy does suffer a poor start, could Mike Zimmer be in the hot seat when the Cowboys travel to Georgia?
