The Dallas Cowboys made an excellent start to their 2024 NFL Draft campaign and have three picks to play with on Friday.

Jerry Jones was set to have just one second and third-round selection but a calculated trade with the Detroit Lions has opened up another third.

Jerry Jones took Tyler Guyton off the board as the team was in awe of his freakish athleticism.

Furthermore, they ticked off a key starting position which was open at left tackle.

The draft still has two crucial days to come with six more rounds before teams have a clearer picture of their rosters.

Cowboys set to make a beeline for Brooks but could target their defense

America’s Team face a crucial period of picks, that can turn the draft in their favor.

Today, the Cowboys will likely target a running back and a center, two imperative foundations of their offense.

However, their extra selection gives the Cowboys more flexibility throughout the day.

One other position the franchise must target is the linebacker spot.

Veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks was one of two outside free agents that joined the Cowboys.

Shortly after, Dallas had to say an emotional farewell to former All-Pro middle linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

Mazi Smith is approaching his sophomore season but underwent shoulder surgery in 2024.

NFL expert says the Cowboys should watch out for a Texas linebacker

Therefore, the Cowboys will possibly investigate the chance of drafting a linebacker with their additional pick.

Cowboys Insider Jane Slater for NFL Network posted: “LB Edgerrin Cooper and RB Jonathan Brooks are guys I’ll be watching for with Dallas. Esp if Cooper slides.”

Slater says she will be keeping her eyes peeled for any activity surrounding linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.

Cooper is expected to be taken early on Day 2 being one of the best linebackers

The rookie out of Texas A&M is predicted to be taken early in round two but could fall.

Cooper produced a Next Gen Stats NFL Combine score of 82 that ranked 2nd among his position.

Ultimately, the Cowboys front office will be monitoring the 22-year-old but it could be too optimistic to think he could fall to #56 in the second round.
