After the Cowboys “must-win” game against the Chargers, Mike McCarthy told his team to “keep believing” heading into the bye week and beyond.

The NFL world was tuned into the Dallas Cowboys to see how they’d respond to the setback incurred at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5.

Cowboys defense comes up big down stretch against Chargers

The Cowboys were demolished 42-10 by the Niners last week, but were able to bounce back against the Chargers on Monday Night Football to grit out a tough 20-17 win.

QB Dak Prescott completed 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown as the Cowboys improved to 10-1 since the start of 2021 in games after a loss. CeeDee Lamb was also excellent, catching all seven of his targets for 117 yards.

The Cowboys took at 17-10 lead with 11:19 remaining in the game but an error from the Dallas special teams gave the Chargers an opportunity to level the score.

LA did just that, as Justin Herbert found tight end Gerald Everett in the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line.

Brandon Aubrey then made two field goals to give Dallas a two point lead, but the Chargers still had the chance to send the game to overtime. However, Micah Parsons had a huge sack on Justin Herbert on second down, before the Cowboys pressured Herbert into throwing an interception to Stephon Gilmore to seal the game on third down.

Mike McCarthy inspires confidence with ‘keep believing’ message heading into bye week

Many described the game as a “must-win” for Dallas. After the bitter disappointment against the Niners, Mike McCarthy’s team proved they’ve plenty of fight still left in them.

After the game, the Cowboys Twitter account shared McCarthy’s locker room message to the group ahead of their bye in Week 7.

He inspired the team to ‘keep believing’ ahead of the next slate of games.

“Last thing I’ve got for you”, he announced. “Ordinary people with extraordinary beliefs do extraordinary things. Keep believing, keep building this thing, let’s keep f****** stackin’.”

Dallas now moves to 4-2 with the win. After the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, the Cowboys are now just one game back of first place in the NFC East. They have two games against Philadelphia remaining on the schedule which could prove pivotal for the postseason.

First though, the Cowboys come home to take on the Los Angeles Rams after the bye week.
