Mike Florio suggests one Cowboys star is in for an ‘awakening’ under Mike Zimmer’s coaching scheme

America’s Team has been hard at work during the OTAs and mandatory minicamp despite one key star’s absence but Mike Florio has a warning for one player as preseason approaches.

The Dallas Cowboys have one more scheduled session of OTAs before their summer break begins and they can escape the offseason spotlight only for a little while.

CeeDee Lamb has put his foot down and is expecting a contract swiftly after position rival Justin Jefferson is now swimming in gold.

Moreover, Lamb has refused to attend the spring training program and has racked up over $100,000 worth of fines in his protest.

Micah Parsons is set for a monster payday but has missed crucial offseason training

Fellow contract hunter Micah Parsons is also in line to receive a lucrative payday but may have to sit tight for a little while longer.

The hybrid linebacker, who predominantly lines up on the edge, was a no-show at the early OTAs because he was persistent in self-training.

Furthermore, the Dallas star had a carbon-copy approach to the previous offseason and believes that he needs to give his body time to recover before taking to the field again.

The three-time All-Pro has received backlash because of his offseason program.

Offseason training is a crucial period for veteran players to become acquainted with the rookies and lay down their preseason foundations.

The coaching staff will already have enforced their new training sessions and schemes onto their players.

Therefore, Parsons has missed a valuable timeslot in the offseason program but has continued to demonstrate his talent despite opting to skip before.

Parsons will be learning the new schemes from DC Mike Zimmer

One of the key figures that Parsons will have to familiarize himself with is the new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

The former Minnesota Vikings head coach has signed a one-year deal with the franchise after Dan Quinn departed for his second head coaching stint.

Zimmer is notorious for his no-nonsense, my way or the highway coaching methods.

Parsons revealed in a mandatory minicamp interview that he and Zimmer have spoken about 20 words to one another.

Mike Florio says Parsons has been ‘naive’ during his offseason activity

Ultimately, the pair have had minimal conversation, and NFL expert Mike Florio has issued a stern warning to the young talent.

“Micah better get ready because it’s gonna be good. From our perspective, it’s gonna be good. From Micah’s perspective, it might not be too good,” Florio explained on Pro Football Talk.

“But he (Micah) is in for an awakening. It’s like man, It’s funny because he’s being a little naive here and he doesn’t realize what’s coming for him. It’s gonna be Zimmer’s foot for his ar**, not literally.”

Parsons is in for an ‘awakening’ when he gets to grips with Zimmer

Florio believes that Parsons will be in for an ‘awakening’ when he has to knuckle down in preseason training.

Zimmer will expect the three-time Pro Bowler to not step out of line and follow his designated routine to perfection.

Jerry Jones stated, in an exclusive interview, that the defense was a key issue in their 2023 season.

Therefore, Zimmer knows the expectations and must deliver results with Parsons being a key piece of the puzzle.
