The OTAs have been underway for ten days and Micah Parsons still hasn’t met with the Dallas Cowboys squad.
The franchise pass-rusher had stated that he would be ready to return to the facilities this week. He was even present for media appointments, but didn’t take part in any training sessions.
Parsons is still waiting for a contract extension with Dallas. He’s one of the best defenders in the NFL and a long-term deal could make him one of – if not the – highest paid in the league.

Parsons wants to focus on himself before reuniting with the team
The defensive end’s absence doesn’t mean that he isn’t working out and doing the homework for himself.
Everything is very much in line with the organisation. Parsons talks openly about needing some time to himself to concentrate on growing his mind and spirit, as well as keeping up with his shape.
Losing to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs still resonates in the player’s mind, and he wants to come in with a completely new mindset for 2024.
Although it is a voluntary activity, its absence in OTAs can open up space for other defenders to stand out.
Mike McCarthy isn’t worried about Parsons’ no-show, but thinks he might be missing an opportunity
To the press on Thursday, Mike McCarthy answered questions regarding the DE.
The Cowboys’ Head Coach understands that team activities are optional, but he values them because they are an important time to bond.
“I think anytime you have a chance to be together, it’s an opportunity to improve, whether it’s in the mental realm, the physical realm, which is limited obviously this time of year, and the emotional connection and so forth,” claimed.
McCarthy pointed out that, despite training camp being the time when players need to focus the most, Parsons could be missing out on some great chances.
“But, you know, it’s a long year. Training camp is really the heightened focus for all of that. But yeah it’s definitely an opportunity that’s been missed.”
People know little about what goes on internally
Apparently, Micah Parsons is more present in the facilities than we realised.
The player had one-on-one meetings with coaches to learn about the changes Mike Zimmer is setting up for this season.
What’s more, the HC is well aware of how much Parsons looks after himself: “He’ll be ready when it’s time.”
On 23 July, the Cowboys leave for Oxnard for training camp. McCarthy is monitoring each of the players who were not present at the OTAs and according to him, they all know their responsibilities to the team.
“Everybody has a responsibility whether they’re here or not to get what they need because when we hit Oxnard, that’s our one opportunity for real football,” said. “That’s the way we approach it, so, yeah, I have confidence that everybody’s going to be ready to go when we get there.”
