Despite the exciting news of Chris Jones seeing out the rest of his career as a Chief and then Marquise Brown arriving, Kansas City has said goodbye to two stars.

Even though they are back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs are still saying goodbye to familiar faces.

The offseason can provide players with new chapters, and some Chiefs welcome new opportunities.

Willie Gay joins the Saints

Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. has said hello to free agency and has joined the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints have signed Willie Gay on a one-year deal worth $5 million.

Moreover, the 26-year-old has an opportunity to earn himself a big contract.

He was drafted by the Chiefs in 2020 and they used their second-round pick on him.

Additionally, he recorded four tackles in the Super Bowl LVIII triumph over the San Francisco 49ers.

Gay finished his career at the Chiefs with a total of 233 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and four interceptions.

The franchise took to X to confirm his departure but also to give him a proper farewell.

Chiefs’ social media uploaded a thank you picture with the caption: “Always brought the energy. Thank you for everything champ!”

Townends lands in Houston

In addition to Gay, punter Tommy Townsend has started a new chapter with the Houston Texans.

Townsend signed a two-year deal with the Texans for a total value of $6 million.

He leaves a two-time Super Bowl champion after joining the Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2020.

In 2022, the 27-year-old was awarded First-Team All-Pro honors and selected for the Pro Bowl.

Townsend joins the upcoming Texans, led by sophomore season-approaching CJ Stroud and young head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Kansas City took to X to give their former punter a gracious departing message.

Alongside a thank you picture they posted: “It was a pleasure kickin’ it with you. Thank you for everything.”

Both players will not embark on the upcoming ‘three-peat’ season with the Chiefs but leave winning multiple rings.

The Chiefs are seeing a high volume of turnover as they look to bring free-agent additions and have the NFL Draft to contend with.
