Although Kansas City has made every effort to keep its great players, they have not been able to hold on to their two-time champion linebacker.
It was already expected that Willie Gay Jr. would probably not have his contract renewed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and the fears were confirmed this week.
The victory against the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, which took place at Arrowhead, led Gay to tweet that it was most likely his last dance in the stadium.
Insider Mike Garafolo announced the player’s departure. He’s now off to the New Orleans Saints, his new home for the next year.

The goodbyes
Gay’s appreciation for the fans and the entire organization is remarkable and certainly everlasting. On Wednesday, the linebacker published a goodbye text to Chiefs Kingdom on his X profile.
He wrote: “Man, I’m so blessed you took a chance on this country boy from Mississippi. Lord knows I was so scared moving 10 hours away from home, lol, but the Amazing fans and people in general here made my transition so much easier. People of Kansas City, I love you all
“To The Hunt Family, Brett Veach, Coach Spags, and my favorite, lol, BIG RED, THANK YOU GUYS for accepting me for who I was coming in as just a young, energetic football-loving Young man. Over four years, I’ve been to 3 Super Bowls and four AFC championships and won 2 rings.
“Ok, I’m done bragging, but I’m so thankful for the Chiefs organization. I LOVE YALL FOREVER. Now I have to see if I can get my son to stop watching and singing the Red Kingdom videos.”
Patrick Mahomes, always active on the social media, also showed his respects by retweeting his teammate’s post: “Going to miss you brotha!”
In the new cycle of his victorious career, the 26-year-old LB will once again be playing with some well-known names, such as Khalen Sounders and Tyrann Mathieu.
Over the last two Super Bowls, Gay’s numbers proved his talent: 95 solo and 50 assisted tackles.
He spent four seasons as a complete Chief. The second-round pick in the 2020 Draft, who won two titles, played in 57 games and tallied 233 tackles (150 solo and 83 assisted).
