The Kansas City Chiefs have seen another one of their Super Bowl winners walk as they look to rebuild in the hope of the three-peat dream.
Kansas City now says goodbye to their two-time Super Bowl-winning linebacker Willie Gay Jr.
Gay was a key competent of Steve Spagnuolo’s red machine defense.
Gay heads to the Saints
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Willie Gay Jr. was signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. The contract is worth $5 million with $3 million of that salary guaranteed money.
The linebacker will be reuniting with some familiar faces like Tyrann Mathieu and Khalen Saunders who played with him on the Chiefs roster.
His departure is not a shock to the system as with his contract expiring, he tweeted on X that it could be his final home playoff game at Arrowhead.
Gay was a round-two pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and proceeded to prove he was a smart defensive pickup.
Moreover, the 26-year-old registered 233 tackles throughout four years as a Chiefs star, including 44 last season.
In addition, he finished his Kansas chapter with five sacks, 2 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, four interceptions, and a defensive touchdown.

Start of a new chapter
Gay is still a tender age in the NFL world and has a bright future ahead of him.
Although Gay will be disappointed that he will not be a part of the Chiefs’ journey for the three-peat, he becomes a brilliant pick-up for the Saints.
Kansas City is not short of firepower in that position and will not be disheartened at the player’s departure.
Besides, they have players like newly resigned Drue Tranquill, Nick Bolton, and Leo Chenal.
Tranquill was paid handsomely last week as he received a three-year deal worth $19 million.
He would have hit free agency otherwise, but the Chiefs pulled out their checkbook.
Ecstatic with the new deal the former posted on X: “Unfinished business. #ChiefsKingdom LETS GOOOOO.”
Gay now enters the realm in which Tranquill would have landed and finds himself in New Orleans.
On a one-year deal, this is where Gay can shine and prove himself to earn a big contract with the Saints or in free agency once more.
