Kansas City Chiefs man on course to break records amid new mega-contract claims

Andy Reid’s incredible achievements could see him earn a big payday this offseason.

NFL sources report that the Kansas City Chiefs will open contract extension talks with Andy Reid in the coming weeks.

After the Chiefs successfully defended their Super Bowl title, Reid said he’s returning for the chance at a three-peat.

Andy Reid’s contract

In 2020, Reid signed a six-year extension to remain the Chiefs head coach.

There are still two years remaining on that deal, but his accomplishments are enough for the front office to want him around longer, or pay him more, or both.

Although coaching contracts aren’t public like players, SI’s Albert Breer reported at the time that Reid’s contract was in the ballpark of $10 million per season.

Before the New England Patriots parted ways with Bill Belichick, he was reportedly the league’s highest-paid coach, making approximately $15 million.

Expect Reid to get somewhere in that price range.

Reid’s incredible achievements with the Chiefs

Simply put, Andy Reid has been a godsend to a Chiefs franchise in disarray before his arrival.

Reid inherited a team that went 2-14 in 2012 under Romeo Crennel while only enjoying one winning season from the 2007 campaign until the end of 2012.

In 11 seasons with Reid, KC’s only missed the playoffs once (2014), never once suffering through a losing season.

Since inserting Patrick Mahomes as the starting quarterback in 2018, KC’s made it to the AFC Championship Game six straight times, appearing in four of the previous five Super Bowls.

When the Chiefs captured their second successive title weeks ago, Reid became the first coach since Bill Belichick in 2004 to lead a team to back-to-back Super Bowl victories.

Reid’s historic coaching feats

In 2023, the Chiefs’ coach set some historic records among NFL bosses.

He’s now the only coach in NFL history to win at least 100 games with two different franchises (The Eagles and Chiefs) and the only one to win at least 10 playoff games with two teams.

Reid is the all-time leader in coaching wins for the Chiefs and Eagles.

Coaching feats are within Reid’s reach

With their Super Bowl victory earlier this year, Reid became just the third NFL coach to win three Super Bowls in a five-season span, with the others being Chuck Noll and Bill Belichick.

If you want to know Reid’s motivation for continuing, it could be to surpass some of the biggest coaching achievements of all time.

Reid’s 26 playoff wins are second all-time behind Belichick’s 31.

He and Belichick are the only NFL coaches with 200+ wins and at least three Super Bowl titles.

With 258 regular season victories, Reid is fast approaching Belichick (302), George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328) for the most ever.

Those three are also the only three ahead of Reid in combined playoff and regular-season victories.

Reid has 284; third on the all-time list is Halas (324), then Belichick (343), and Shula (347).

Another Super Bowl victory in 2024, and he’d be the only NFL coach to three-peat.

Reid probably won’t say it publicly but having all the coaching records imaginable and titles would mean a great deal to him.

He’s well on his way to breaking all of those records soon.
