Many suspect Mike McCarthy is on borrowed time after the Dallas Cowboys play-off exit.
Jerry Jones asked for time to digest the Dallas Cowboys humiliating loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL play-offs.
But the owner meanwhile told his players he wants to ‘win now’, and head coach Mike McCarthy has shown he is unable to get the job done in the play-offs.
This has left many either calling for McCarthy to go, or just expecting the inevitable.
But before firing a head coach with 12 regular season wins, you need to know where you will go next, and this is the dilemma Jones may be considering.
There is lots of speculation, with numerous big name head coaches available, and perhaps limited time, with interviews beginning to be held across the league.

Bill Simmons expects Bill Belichick hire
The prospect of Bill Belichick heading to Dallas was speculated on even before the Packers loss, and it has been the big talking point of the week.
He is not the only option, with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel another intriguing candidate.
The Ringer owner Bill Simmons has told his podcast that he views Vrabel as the sensible option, and expects Jerry Jones to end up hiring Belichick, attracted by how sensational the move would be.
He explained: “I think it’s the sexy move for Jones. It’s the ‘hey I just got the greatest coach of all time, we haven’t won a Super Bowl in three decades we need each other, this is going to be great’ and turning the team over to him.
“The smart move is to hire Mike Vrabel. I don’t know if that’s the Jerry Jones move.
“I’m in my 80s, I want to win now the greatest coach ever is available, I have a team, I have a quarterback, I have a defense that underperformed, I’ll spend whatever it takes, this guy is as motivated as I am’. You talk yourself into that pretty fast.”
Simmons explains why Belichick would be tempted by Dallas
While Shannon Sharpe labelled Belichick and Jones a ‘match made in hell’, Simmons does not necessarily agree, arguing the two parties need each other.
He has explained why Belichick would be tempted by the Dallas Cowboys, pointing out that the franchise provide the best possible chance for him to become the coach with the most wins ever, which he is currently short of.
Simmons explains: “I just think Belichick, the more intel we get the more he wants to break that record. You go to Dallas probably that’s 11 or 12 wins a couple of years in a row.”
With alternative options for Belichick including the Atlanta Falcons, who don’t have a quarterback, and a range of other vacancies, working with Dak Prescott could be appealing.
He adds: “If your Belichick it’s just the safest bet of all these available jobs”.
