Dallas Cowboys set to rely on fresh faces with key starters walking in free agency
Moreover, the Dallas front office has been hesitant during free agency, which caught many people by surprise.
However, the franchise will have a strong idea about how their roster will shape up come the final 53 selection.
As the crucial preseason gets underway, various trimmings will be made, but certain faces are more or less certain to return.
Jack Ferguson is determined to make a bigger step up in 2024
One of the Cowboys breakout players in 2023 was tight end Jake Ferguson during his sophomore year.
The 25-year-old took a back-seat role during his rookie campaign and registered just 19 receptions for 174 yards.

After Dalton Schultz moved to fellow Texas state franchise the Houston Texans, the top spot opened up.
Ferguson flourished when stepping into his more predominant role in the offense. The South Dakota native played in all 17 games and started 16, where he registered 71 receptions in 2023.
In his breakout year, he produced 761 yards and five touchdowns, logging 10 receptions for 93 yards in the Cowboys’ lone playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.
Despite a huge season, Ferguson is very keen to make another step up in 2024 and become a bigger tool for Dak Prescott.
‘Not even scratching the surface’… Ferguson convinced he wants to get better
When speaking with ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys tight end explained how he is looking to make another leap.
“To me, I think I’m not even scratching the surface,” Ferguson explained to Archer. “There’s so many different things that I want to get better at and I know I can get better at. We watch film every day of different games, even the practices we’re doing now and I’m like, ‘OK, I can get a lot better still. ‘”
Mike McCarthy will be eager for Ferguson to become more productive in his third year as he has emerged as a reliable receiving target.
The release of Michael Gallup has opened up the spot for the WR3 position and if Ferguson were to replicate his production from last year, then the concern over that void will be eased.
Luke Schoonmaker will be Ferguson’s second-string tight end in 2024 after he recovers from offseason surgery on his shoulder.
