How ‘Old Mahomes Magic’ is about to come back to Kansas City

This year has a lot of potential to be the one in which Patrick Mahomes will be acclaimed and remembered for a skill that marks his style of play.

If we take into account the way of playing that led the franchise to win its first Super Bowl, nobody would have thought that last season’s title was possible.

That’s because KC had to reinvent himself and explore the possibilities within what the squad could offer.

Brett Veach and the rest of the organisation have built a team with a winning mentality – and one that is ready for more.

The Chiefs’ new look

There’s no doubt that the addition of Hollywood Brown has lifted the spirits of the players and the fans, largely because of the situation that Kansas City’s receiving corps was in.

Having already familiarised himself with his new home, the wide receiver is already training hard and is excited about 2024.

In a short space of time, he’s gaining the trust of Patrick Mahomes and the coaches to be used as a powerful weapon in the passing game.

In recent press conferences, the Chiefs’ offensive duo commented individually on the experiences they’ve had with each other so far. And the speeches match up perfectly – the two are excited and focused on what they can do together on the field.

Also, Andy Reid was asked what they can expect Mahomes and Brown to do this season.

“Are they willing to share what they’re thinking with one another? [Mahomes and Brown] have a good connection with that part of it; they’re talking. Once Patrick knows what Hollywood’s thinking – and Hollywood kind of knows where Patrick physically can get the ball to – then that’s a good thing.”

Rich Eisen talks about ‘The story of the season’

On the recent edition of the Rich Eisen show, the subject was not only the chances of the three-peat over the acquisition of Brown but also the return of the quarterback’s long throws.

“We all know Hollywood Brown didn’t get much running in Baltimore. I mean, he got some right in Lamar’s first MVP season, then he goes to Arizona and didn’t do much,” said the host. “Now he’s in Kansas City and everyone’s like, ‘just play, ‘He’s plugging, play like Tyreek Hill’.”

He brought up the fact that KC didn’t need to use the long ball last year to win the SB.

Andy Reid’s jabbing Mahomes for taking the profit, not going broke against Spags (Steve Spagnuolo), the defensive coordinator who stayed put… When I heard that I’m like, ‘Ok, because last year we all know that’s how they won the Super Bowl, because Mahomes doesn’t have to throw deep anymore'”.

The journalist has already projected Hollywood Brown as being responsible for bringing back the “magic” that Mahomes can do so well.

“Now, Hollywood Brown is in that spot and I guess Andy Reid is like, ‘Throw it to him, that guys that’s down the field’,” noted Eisen. “If they had to take the top of the defense off again, if that guy can actually provide that, where if you take the top of the defense off again, they don’t have to run it as much and Mahomes doesn’t have to check it down as much, and you can just do the old Mahomes magic again.”

“That’s the story of the season, period, end of story. The other 31 teams have a tons going for them, tons to talk about. Going into the 2024 season it’s about the first ever three-peat. Can they do it?”

Eisen recalls that the only team to almost win a third title in a row was New England in the early 2000s: “It’s been 20 years since we’ve had a possible three peat. And the Patriots went as far as the divisional round. What will the Chiefs do that is story one through story last of the season. Can’t wait for it.”

‘Hot topic’ at the Chiefs in 2024

Indeed, Rich Eisen understands and is putting all his expectations on Kansas City to make NFL history.

“There’s a lot of teams that are able to win the Super Bowl 100%, but here’s only one that’s able to win the Super Bowl and do something you’ve never seen before,” claimed. “Every single game is gonna be about it. We’re gonna be talking about the Chiefs ability to go deep again, throw deep, go deep all of that.”

Afterwards, he left a warning in the form of a reflection on who can stop the Kansas City Chiefs.

“And I will just counsel everybody go slow because last year the Chiefs looked like they couldn’t do a lick of championship football when it all came down to it and they lose in Arrowhead on Christmas day to a plucky Raiders team and they didn’t lose after that. If you didn’t get them then, when are you going to get them this year?”
