The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed their first rookie of the 2024 class of the NFL Draft. Xavier Worthy, the fastest wide receiver in Combine history.
KC was expected to be on the clock in the last position of the event (32nd), but the Buffalo Bills made a calculated plan and offered them a trade up that was accepted. As a result, the franchise selected the player in 28th overall.
According to some analysts, Worthy wasn’t a prospect to be picked in the first round.
But Kansas City have their own idea, and the perfect coach and quarterback to scheme up ways to use him.

Andy Reid gave his first thoughts on the WR
The Chiefs were looking for a receiver who could fit the fast and explosive profile – thinking, of course, of providing an extra target for Patrick Mahomes.
Speaking to the media last Thursday night, Andy Reid heaped praise on the 20-year-old: “We’re glad to add him on board,” claimed. “We think he’s a heck of a football player, number one. He does a few different things.”
The head coach even hinted that Worthy could be useful in more than one position for KC.
“He’s a good wide receiver and also a good special teams returner, and he’ll end up doing both to start things off with. He’ll just work into that rotation when we get him, the wide receiver rotation, with Hollywood (Brown) and Rashee (Rice) and (Travis) Kelce and the other fellas. It should give Pat another weapon there in which to use.”
Last season, he led the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) in return yards, with 371, including a 74-yard touchdown. Averaging 13.8 yards per return throughout his college career at Texas, he returned 41 punts for 564 yards and a TD.
There is one trait that could maybe be a negative point
The reason why the freshman was not listed as an overall prospect is because of his lack of wingspan – he’s 5’11” and weighs 165 pounds.
“He’s not a big kid, at least, weight-wise,” Reid admitted.
No doubt the HC will find a way to make things work, getting the best out of the player and applying the most suitable style of play for the team.
“He’s got good height, he’s just not very heavy. But I think you’ll see this toughness that he’s got, which jumped out at me. And then when you talk to their coach, Coach (Steve) Sarkisian and I are close. He kept talking about how smart he was, he’s got great football instincts, and he’s a tremendous worker. In this offense, you’ve got to be able to do that and have those characteristics.”
It was good to pick Worthy. Also, playing with Mahomes it’s hard not to stand out on the field.
