After a repeated failure in the playoffs, the Cowboys now face an important offseason and push the team to the next level.
The more important step on the offseason agenda is without a doubt Dak Prescott’s contract situation. After coming off his most productive season in the blue and white jersey, all the indicators are suggesting the franchise will be offering the quarterback a market-setting contract.
Prescott needs help
Moreover, with Prescott most likely to be under center at the start of 2024, it is now crucial the Dallas Cowboys put all the pieces together around the 2016 NFL Draft pick.
One of the most problematic areas last season was the running game, resulting in pressure for Prescott to deliver when throwing the ball – which he did.
A successful and consistent run game, categorically, needs an excellent offensive line. The executives and coaches will need to work together to improve this part and not see a repeat of last years’ shortcomings.

Inconsistent run game
On the recent PFF Podcast, ‘Fixing every AFC & NFC East team in five minutes’, Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo discussed the ways the Dallas Cowboys should improve.
Furthermore, the running game was identified as their main problem: “They had an inconsistent run game this year and there are elements of that.”
Conversation became angled towards the offensive line needing improvement, as bodies were being lost, which Palazzolo pointed out: “we got two starters to replace on the offensive line, do we try bring Tyron Smith back on the cheap, a Cowboy for life, probably.
“Center Tyler Biadasz hits free agency and I see chat say run game hasn’t been the same since they lost Travis Frederick, for sure, maybe that’s the truth, Frederick was amazing.”

‘He was a weak link’
Fellow host, Sam Monson, rightfully pointed out the return last year of offensive tackle Terence Steele: “Terence Steele coming back off injury last year was a problem, he was a weak link on that offensive line.
“Are we relying on him bouncing back? Do we have a choice? Do we just have to cross our fingers and hope in that regard?”
The graduate out of Texas Tech was gifted a lucrative contract extension on September 3rd 2023 worth $86.8 million over the course of five years.
However, this contract was given to Steele when he was coming back from injury during week 11 of the 2022 regular season, where he ruptured his ACL and MCL which was the end of his campaign
A disappointing 2023 season was not what anyone in the franchise expected. Now the Texas born player will have to bounce back and find his form in hope of restoring a run game for the Dallas Cowboys, which could take some pressure of Prescott.
Tony Pollard is said to not be the franchises number one running back and rumors circulate if the Cowboys could land the four-time Pro-Bowler Derrick Henry in free agency.
