A man who knows a thing or two about the pressures of being the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback has some simple advice for Dak Prescott.
Danny White played his entire NFL career with America’s Team and says the current Dallas Cowboys starter is doing just fine.
The former signal caller with Dallas from 1976-88 was recently honored by the Davey O’Brien Foundation alongside the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.
Who is Danny White?
The name Danny White might be off the radar for the new generation of Dallas Cowboys’ fans.
White joined the Cowboys when the World Football League folded in 1976, becoming Roger Staubach’s backup.
Until 1979, White wasn’t just holding a clipboard on the sidelines; he served as the club’s starting punter.
He was the Cowboys punter and backup QB from 1976-84.
Following Staubach’s retirement at the end of the 1979 season, White became the Cowboys starting quarterback.

He has a Super Bowl ring as Staubach’s backup during the 1977 season.
In his first season as the Cowboys starter, he guided them to a memorable 30-27 come-from-behind victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
The following season, he and his Cowboys fell victim to one of the most painful playoff losses in team history, leading Joe Montana’s San Francisco 49ers late in the fourth quarter of the 1981 NFC Championship Game.
A spectacular game-winning TD grab by Dwight Clark gave San Fran the victory, in what is known today simply as “The Catch”.
A year later, White was named to the Pro Bowl for the first and only time while also earning Second-team All-Pro honors.
The Cowboys made it to three straight NFC Championship games with White behind centre from 1980-82.
As Dallas’ starter, he compiled a record of 62-30 in the regular season with an overall rating of 81.7, throwing for 21,259 yards and 155 touchdowns.
White’s thoughts on Dak Prescott
White’s advice to Dak Prescott was simply to “keep doing what he’s doing.”
“He’s in a position right now where he’s gotta be questioning himself because everybody else is questioning him,” said White.
White says Prescott’s doing everything right to take this team to the next level.
“He doesn’t need to change. He’s doing all the right things. … He’ll get there,” added White.
Dak Prescott ‘can’t say’ that people around him need to be better
As for how the Cowboys can become Super Bowl champions, White says Prescott’s teammates needs to step it up.
“He’ll get there,” says White about Prescott.
“As a quarterback, so much of your success depends on the people around you. … Dak is doing everything well enough to win a Super Bowl.”
“I think everyone else around him, he can’t say this. … But if everyone else around him elevates and if he does exactly the same thing he did this year, I think they’ll win the Super Bowl. Dak’s the last guy that needs to change.”
Prescott has a career postseason record of 2-5, throwing for three touchdown passes and two interceptions in their defeat to the Green Bay Packers.
He led the league in touchdown passes over the regular season with 36 and a career-high 105.9 rating.
