Kansas City will be opening its 2024 campaign, hopefully in style, but are yet to know who they are due to face.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl winner has opened the following season with a home match for the last two decades.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ victory in Las Vegas means they will be hosting the first game of the NFL season for successive years.

Patrick Mahomes and his team kicked off their Super Bowl-winning season in 2023 against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.

However, the fairytale homecoming did not plan out and Dan Campbell’s rejuvenated pride rained on the Chiefs parade.

After unveiling their latest Super Bowl banner, the Lions took care of business and went on to upset the Chiefs 21-20.

The NFL has released the opponents that every franchise is set to play in the 2024 season, but the order of the schedule remains a mystery.

Fans will not have to wait too long to find out who their first opponents are and when they play their bitter divisional rivals, as the NFL will release the calendar in May.

But what we do know is the Chiefs will kick off the NFL season at home.

FS1 expert discusses who the Chiefs will start their 2024 opener against

NFL expert Nick Wright discussed who his beloved Chiefs could face on the opening day.

Wright explains how it cannot be a divisional rival because there has only been one in the 20 years of the Super Bowl champs hosting the inaugural game of the season.

So, that means the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Denver Broncos have been sidelined.

In addition, he does not believe that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints are a ‘big show’, so they will not draw in the viewing figures.

Nick Wright narrows the NFL’s selection down to three AFC contenders

Therefore, that leaves it between the Cincinnati Bengals, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Houston Texans.

“I don’t think they [NFL] will pick the Bengals because Joe Burrow is rehabbing still, and because Joe Burrow has unfortunately a tough history of either missing the very beginning of the season or coming in hurt, therefore I don’t think it’s smart,” Wright stated when ruling out the Bengals.

He explained why it was not the Ravens: “I don’t think you can ask Baltimore. ‘Hey, you guys are supposed to win the Superbowl’. You choke that away in the last game you played in and now go to their building and watch them hang the banner.”

“They’re trying to, I think, promote one of the next teams that’s what they did with the Lions who are the next team. The answer to this is the Houston Texans.”

Houston Texans tipped to travel to Arrowhead to kick off 2024

Wright has logically worked out that the Chiefs will most likely open their season against the Houston Texans.

C.J. Stroud won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023 and has made the franchise dark horses for the Super Bowl.

Being on the cheaper rookie deal, the Texans have been to surround the QB with all-star talent.

Most notably, Former First-Team All-Pro Stefon Diggs was traded from the Buffalo Bills.

Could the Texans cause an upset on the opening day, just like the Lions last year?
