Ex NFL star pleads for Chiefs to trade for five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver

Former Cowboys star Dez Bryant thinks the Chiefs should make a move for DeAndre Hopkins amid the team’s ongoing struggles at wide receiver.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Broncos for the first time since 2015 and the first time in Patrick Mahomes’ career on Sunday.

Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense could not get going in the 24-9 defeat, and while the team is 12th in points per game and 3rd in offensive yards per game, the offense is just not clicking as it should.

The Chiefs have issues at WR

A major part of the reason why is the wide receiver group. Outside of Travis Kelce, Kansas’ pass-catchers have been woefully underwhelming; barring Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ wideouts have combined for a total of three receiving touchdowns this season.

Kadarius Toney and Sky Moore have been virtual non-factors on offense, while asking Rashee Rice to burden the responsibility of being the No.1 option at WR in his rookie season is asking a lot.

It’s abundantly clear they need someone besides Kelce to become a reliable target, and one former NFL star has somebody in mind the Chiefs should trade for.

Ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant thinks the Chiefs should make a trade with the Tennessee Titans for five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins.

‘Kansas City need D Hop!,’ Bryant wrote on Twitter. ‘Whatever they need to do to go get him go get him Mahomes need somebody else who is reliable other than Kelce Logical thought?’

Hopkins proved he’s still got it in Week 8 win over Falcons

The suggestion comes off the back of Hopkins making four catches for 128 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons in what was only his second career three-touchdown day.

The 31-year-old rolled back the clock in the win, reminding everyone why he made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams five times between 2015 and 2020.

Through seven games, Hopkins has 31 catches for 504 yards and three touchdowns. It has him on pace for his best season since his last Pro Bowl season in 2020 with the Cardinals. Only Davante Adams (90), Mike Evans (86) and Antonio Brown (76) have more touchdowns than Hopkins’ 74 since he entered the NFL in 2013.

Whether the Chiefs are aggressive enough to make a move for Hopkins, especially when they’ve just brought Mecole Hardman back, remains to be seen.

However, he’d undoubtedly bolster Kansas’ offensive options and provide some much needed firepower to that particular unit.
